Looks like the 1.0 version of this machine and GE is probably dumping the stock because the 2.0 replaced it, but be aware the 2.0 fixes a lot of issues with the original version (including moving the internal water reservoir away from the warm compressor). That said, the ice it makes is amazing and the machine has an app where you can set timers to make it easier for shabbos use.
Do you have 1.0 or 2.0?
Isn’t there a light and sensor for when you open the door?
I got the 2.0 (since everything I read indicated the 1.0 has too much potential for mold growth without frequent cleaning) and have had it about 7 months.
As far as the ice tray’s general behavior — the light is on or off as you set it regardless of the door. There it a sensor which detects when the tray is “full” (meaning the ice piles high enough to block a reader), and when full it stops running. When you pull the tray out, the ice maker does not reactivate. Only when you replace the tray completely, and it notices the tray is not “full” will it turn on again. While the ice machine is running (i.e. making ice), it will continue to run without change even if you remove the tray.
Shabboswise, You should be able to open the tray while the machine is on (but then would be unable to replace the tray unless the ice maker is currently going). The app timer schedule you set will turn the machine completely on or off allowing you to freely replace the tray at those times.

JJ Can you clarify if you mean the 1.0 or the 2.0 has a light sensor. I want to get one but I don’t want a light sensor
1.0 has a light. Seems 2.0 that can be controlled via an app.
To clarify, there is no light sensor. The light is a setting (on/low/off) in either model that is not sensor dependent. There is a sensor for whether the ice tray is full or not. Both 1.0 and 2.0 have an app which can control features like the light and schedule remotely (but the 1.0 app is Bluetooth only, where the 2.0 works through Wi-Fi).
