Monopoly is a classic (especially if you play by the rules without unlimited funds in the middle or for rolling a 2 that causes the game to last forever), while Catan and Ticket To Ride are truly excellent board games!
I’m a massive fan of Settlers of Catan, though with Catan you’ll generally want to have at least 3 players and if you want to play with 5 people you’ll need to buy a Catan expansion pack. Ticket To Ride works perfectly with anywhere from 2 to 5 players.
The biggest advantage of it over traditional games like Risk or Monopoly is that you are forced to change your strategy every time you play as the board is set up randomly and is never the same as the last time. Plus it can be played in just 1-2 hours.
