Update: Now $38.12 shipped (or $37.70 from a 3rd party seller)
Ticket To Ride Board Game Linky
The price for this 5 star rated board game in a retail store is $49.99, and the Amazon price is normally $38-$40, so this a nice sale.
Personally I’m a Settlers of Catan addict (what can be better than a board that changes every time you play requiring you to quickly come up with new strategies and placements instead of the same old stale strategies you use in old-school games like Monopoly or Risk), but from what I’m told it’s about time to add this game to my repertoire.
Know of other board games I should be playing as well to occupy part of those long summertime shabbos afternoons? Post a comment!

I love tickets to ride. I also like Power Grid which is amazing strategy game. I have yet to try Settlers of Catan.
@bobby:
You simply must try Settlers! There’s a bit of a learning curve (it helps to be taught by someone who knows how to play) and you need at least 3 players, but it really is a fun game. And it only takes between 30 and 90 minutes to play.
I ordered Ticket To Ride, will try it out soon.
Hmm, it’s $37.15, not $32.59 somehow…
Setters of Catan is a good game, but too predictable after a few months.
bannanagrams is cool
Carcassonne is a good one (30-60 minutes).
Puerto Rico is more complex, plays in roughly 60-90 minutes (unless it’s your first time) and has many different roads to victory.
Race for the Galaxy is great too. Steep learning curve (about 1.5 games to get a feel for it), but once you’ve played your 5th game, you can probably play 2 player games in 20 minutes, 3-5 in 30-45 minutes. Personal favorite.
And if you like deck-building games, Dominion is one that you’ll need to check out.
And finally, more recently, 7 Wonders, is getting a lot of compliments for it’s ease of pick up and its multiple roads to victory.
Thanks Dan,
I have Tickets to Ride Europe and also its expansion set. Its fun and I am planning to get other expansions as well. I just borrowed Settlers of Catan from a friend and will ask him to explain the rules. The other game of interest would be Battlestar galactica.
Cheers
Bobby
try monopoly deal – very fast card version of monopoly – somewhat addictive….and cheap too $5 at target/walmart
If you are getting tired of settlers, try an add on like Cities and Knights! it makes the game like 10 times better and if you put the time into learning it, you will never want to play regular settlers again!
Also, Dominion is absolutely an awesome game, much better than puerto rico like someone mentioned above.
Well, all of these games- even puerto rico put ticket to ride to shame. Ticket to Ride is a good game to play with people who dont want to put in the time to learn a new game, as it is easy to teach and has minimal strategy.
Dominion is the top rated game. We just tried it out over Yom Tov. Lot’s of fun.
Try Consensus (there are several editions of it)…really great game for kids.
try bava kama.
exciting, learning curve and alot of strategy.
Also great investment and very commendable the long shabbos afternoon
Try the Seafarers expansion to Settlers of Catan. We got it for first days of Pesach and we couldn’t get up from the table! It takes the initial premises of Settlers and improves upon them substantially by adding additional strategic objectives, more distinct strategies for more varied gameplay, and a fun new twist that feels fresh but does not too drastically alter the dynamic that you know and love.
Big fan of Settlers and the Seafarers expansion.
My favorite game is Quelf. No strategy, no learning curve. Just fun. You do need to play with people you won’t be shy in front of(family, good friends).
