- It makes regular outgoing and incoming calls with caller ID.

Do you need internet for this to work? Can I take it with me wherever I travel without internet?
Yes, it works over the internet. Read the post for a link to an adapter to make it work over WiFi instead of plugging it into a router.
Beware:
Obihai can and has stopped im the past supporting specific models and then there’s nothing you cam do.
I bought the 100 model in 2015 when dan posted a deal and it stopped working within 2 years.
Still a good deal i guess but it wasn’t what i was expecting.
Yup, it seems that Google updates broke the old model, though there are patches around on the internet to make it work again if you are technically inclined.
Otherwise, it’s still a bargain to get the current version.
Also, I think your timeline is off.
The last time I posted the OBi100 was in 2012 it seems. I’ve been posting the OBi200 since 2013.
not to be too nitpicky but my timing was correct. was posted by JJ not Dan 🙂

Am I my brother’s keeper?
Must have been discontinued by then, guess that’s why it was so cheap 🙂
Thanks for taking time to reply. I did do research and apparently there was a free way by changing gateways. a little complicated but possible. but from what I’ve seen that way doesn’t really work anymore. there is still a possibility that people suggested of using a certain provider for a one-time $5.99 fee and that fixed it for them. But that is not free and no one knows how long that will last . If anyone does have a link 2 a step by step guide of that’s actually still works please host it hair. Thank you
Here’s a simple step-by-step:
https://www.timothyhoogland.com/2016/06/how-to-fix-obi-100-and-obi-110-not-connecting-to-google-voice/
Seems pretty straightforward, do you know if this fix still works, this seems to be from 2016 and mine just stopped working this week.
Thanks.
does’nt work for me. when i dial ***1 it says IP unavailable
I have the Obi100 and it still works just fine. There was a simple workaround (like updating the firmware or something like that). Just google it.
Just tried the update, didn’t fix the problem. I guess I’m gonna spend the 40 and buy the deal. Thanks Dan!
Does it work in Canada?
Read the post. Bold red letters.
Can you call any phone number, landlines and cell phones, in USA for free?
Yes.
wherer is the coupon and how would i do i use it??
The post says exactly where it is.
If I am already enrolled in visa savings edge, will I automatically receive discount?
Yes.
Can you use this if you don’t have a land line at all and just a google voice number?
From the Obitalk website it seems that you must fwd the google voice number to a different number like a landline or voip number.
No need for a landline. You could forward calls to another number, you don’t have to.
From the Obi Website –
” I want to use my Google Voice number to make and receive calls on the OBi
Step 1:
You will need sign up for a new VoIP service account and use it as a forwarded number in your Google Voice settings. Click HERE to get a new number and service to use for this purpose (a fee will apply). To have a seamless experience with Google Voice on your OBi, we recommend you enter your Google Voice number as the outbound caller ID (Call Spoofing or Custom Caller ID) in your VoIP service account. When you make an outgoing call from the OBi, the Caller ID will show your Google Voice number.”
I have an OBi200 on my desk. It works fine with my Google Voice number for free incoming and outgoing calls. No cost at all and I have no landline.
Great – Thank for the help
I just set up google voice. When I called the number, I get a recording that says “state my name and google voice will try to connect me.”
When I have OBi200 connected will my phone just ring without the caller getting a google voice recording?
That’s a setting in Google Voice to screen calls. You can disable it.
Note: Google can decide to stop the free service any time.
Google can also stop providing Gmail, just the risks we live with 🙂
I’ve been using my OBi for years. Not exactly a big investment compared with the monthly cost of a landline.
I see that it costs 25/year for 911 ID service (pretty important). Is there any better alternative?
I recall something in the past about an issue with Caller ID (name) and Obi/Google Voice.
Is there a way to have Caller Id with name work on Obi?
Anyone?
Anyone else having a problem getting a Google Voice #?
It keeps bringing me to a page that says: you selected (XXX)XXX-XXXX To use Google Voice with your smartphone or tablet, link its phone number to your account NEXT BACK
And it gets stuck there.
I tried using the legacy google voice and it brings me to the same page.
Try opening a new Google account?
Try to link it and then unlink it.
Anyone have choppy service? Any way to fix?
Works fine for me. How fast is your internet?
will it work only with VTech cordless or with any?
Any.
