“Crafted from beautiful, brushed aluminum reinforced with a magnesium alloy top inner frame, the Inspiron 7000 laptop is well-designed and stylish. Premium materials and thoughtful construction make it the perfect system for work and home. We don’t cut corners – we cut the thickness of our borders. Dell’s virtually borderless InfinityEdge design shrinks the edge around a brilliant, IPS wide viewing angle FHD (1920×1080) display, immersing you in what’s on the screen rather than being distracted by what’s around it. Waves MaxxAudio Pro adds a sound clarity and dimensionality that take your music and videos to the next level.”

The Dell Inspiron 15 7000 also looses the DVD Drive
Yup, that’s how they get the size and weight of it down.
Can always get a cheap external DVD drive if you really need it:

Any way to dummy it down to a Windows 7 pro instead of 10?
Dan which laptop is a better laptop over all?
The 7000
No touchscreen!
Do you need a touchscreen on a laptop?
Yup!! It’s what you get used to 🙁
Any way to add a hard drive for extra storage? Or do I need to get portable memory?
Please post 17 inch deals as well!
Do you travel with a 17″ laptop?
Aren’t you better off with a desktop at that point?
Desktops aren’t as flat as even 17″ laptops 😛
Why the need for snarky, I-know-how-to-live-your-life better than you do, comments?
O.P obviously knows what he/she wants, and is just letting you know that your viewership would like more options.
Hi Dan
Do you Kno which laptop is better for AutoCAD?
Is this the same laptop that you posted last week for $650 And if it is I ordered that 1. Will they price match it?
Yes.
Definitely worth a try! Tell them you’ll return it if they won’t PM it.
Any idea how it will be w/ Autocad
I noticed this is the same deal you posted last week, but the prices are different. Shouldn’t the 7000 in this deal also come out to $649.99 after tax?
Prices in the US are always listed excluding tax.
The 7000 is $50 cheaper that it was in the previous deal.
Yes, you’re right. I noticed right after I submitted my comment. Currently on the phone to price match. Will let you know if it works out!
If they say no, just ask them to send you a return label and see what they say.
Was able to get a refund for the difference after a 30 min phone call. Disappointed it took this long (would’ve been easier to just cancel and reorder), but the representative didn’t have authority to allow a refund of ~$55 and had to obtain his manager’s approval.
Thanks Dan for letting us know!
Yeah, i tell that to people too in sales, lol.
I’m looking for a cheap low end laptop for my 6th grader. Any suggestions?
Dan I’m not great with computers. Can you explain why the 7000 is better? How is the display on the cheaper model?
7000 is a full HD display, infinity display, backlit keboard, lighter, etc.
Look before you leap:
Note both the screen resolution and ask how bright the screen is (measured in nits).
You may not be happy with a dim screen with poor resolution.
(This is where manufacturers save money, as consumers are always looking at the size of the hard drive, which processor, how much memory — and never asking whether the display is halfway decent. Google these models and nits. and also whether the 1368 resolution is very sharp.)
Your a dum****. You make it like you know what you’re talking about and you don’t even know basic screen resolutions.
*You’re
Here’s what laptop
The Inspiron’s dark display registered a dismal 148 nits of brightness on our light meter, which is the fifth-lowest score we’ve ever recorded and over 100 points less than the mainstream laptop category average (256 nits). By comparison, the Lenovo Yoga 720 15-inch (272 nits), the Lenovo Flex 5 5170 (270 nits), the Asus VivoBook Flip 14 (250 nits) and the Acer Swift 3 (177 nits) were much more luminous.
Dell claims that the screen is rated for 220 nits, so even if the panel hit this optimistic number, it would still be dark. Considering that this laptop starts at $849, screen quality this poor is completely unacceptable and disqualifying.
Laptop magazine reviewed the fhd version. See comments there, which I quote in my post. Sorry if you think me dumb and that I don’t know what I am talking about. I suppose laptop mag is equally dumb.
I am about to buy this 7000 the only thing i am concerned is the RAM isn’t in our days 8 GB enough, i am now sitting by my desktop and i have (only) 2 browsers with 5-6 tabs open, Quickbooks, and Skype, and my Memory shows that it is using 9.5 GB
Is there an option too add RAM?
You can add RAM to it (as the post says, up to 32GB)
But 8GB is enough for that task as well.
does anyone have experience with Dell’s support packages. Are any of them worth it?
Does the 700 have internel light for keyboard ?
As the post says, backlit keyboard.
Can anyone suggest a cheap laptop for my 6th grader?
I see the Webcam comes in the bottom, i feel that i won’t like it,
anyone with that experience?
Dan, really love your emails, keep up the great work! Are there any similar deals on smaller laptops, say 13″?
