Dell has joined the netbook party with the mini, an ultra-portable and economic notebook weighing under 2.3 pounds! It is powered by a netbook designed Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor. It comes in your choice of black or white and has a 8.9″ lcd screen and an sd card reader. An 802.11g mini built-in wi-fi card comes standard for this internet and word processing machine. The Mini uses a SSD, or solid state drive which uses flash memory as opposed to a hard drive. With no moving parts an SSD is much more stable than a traditional hard drive as well as much quieter. It has garnered many good reviews from the critics.
A webcam can be added for $15 and bluetooth can be added for $20.
A 1 year warranty in included-but don’t pay $79 for the 2 year warranty, just put it on a good credit card, like the Starwood AMEX, and the 2 year warranty will be provided for free by AMEX (which will actually be much better than through Dell)!
The Mini comes in 3 basic configurations:
1. Running a Linux/Ubuntu OS with 512 MB RAM and a 4GB SSD for $349
2. Running Windows XP OS with 512 MB RAM and an 8GB SSD for $399
3. Running Windows XP OS with 1GB RAM and a 16GB SSD for $449

I love my eee pc… you can buy them for under $300, which a similar configuration to the lowest Dell listed here. Also, I’ve seen refurbished models being sold for in the low $200’s… These look a lot nicer, I’ll admit it.
However if price is the strong point (and let’s admit it, with netbooks, it all about the low price), Asus’ EEE still wins.
Mordy, do you have a link maybe where i can get a EEE PC, for about $300 new? I want to buy one.
Thanks in advance.
