T-Mobile is raising their SMS rates from 15 cents to 20 cents effective 08/29/08.
As long as you don’t subscribe to an unlimited SMS plan this is a material change in the price of the services you subscribed to, and therefore T-Mobile by law must let you opt out of your contract without paying an early termination fee.
The only question is how many phone calls it will take until you reach a rep that is willing to actually let you go…

Hey if anyone could come up with some excuses to actually get out of all the airline cancellation fees and change fees I think it would be a huge discovery!
I booked this ticket with United for $250.00 one way to texas and I have to cancel it, now they told me its a 150$ fee plus the credit can only be used on the same routing.
I never plan on doing this routing again so basically its $250 down the drain!
ANy Ideas?
Is there a certain way to go about using this info to get out of the contract or is it as simple as just stating the price change
perfect for people who want to get the new iphone 3G, now there are no ETF’s to worry about!
how exactly do we do it? can we just call up any customer service rep? and what do we say?
Well the question is can you still keep and port your numbers to a different carrier?
Hudi- Yes.
The idea is that you want to go elsewhere because of the hiked up price. Essentially, you should make the rep feel like you’ll be porting your number soon, and expect not to have to pay an ETF.
How long do we have to use this as an excuse to terminate our contracts without the ETF? (i need to wait until the iphone comes out).
How long do we have to call? Is 8/29 the deadline? Can I port my number over to the Sprint Sero plan? If so, who do I call first?
you call t-mobile first tell them note the account that they are not charging you to cancel (get the name and id # and save it in case they charge you) then call back to verfiy thet its in the notes
then make your sprint plan online and port your # (you can port it online)
Dan – I tried calling time warner and they refused to extend that 6 month promo….
Did you have the same thing as I did – I signed up for that 6 months promo of internet only for $29.99 a month – $150 rebate…. that you had posted once…
If you have the same as I do (No cable or phone service – just internet) maybe you could recommend what to do ?
I called them twice already…
Thanks.
I had a year promo with cablevision for $45 totsl including tax for internet and phone. It came to an end now and they want to charge me $85 a month. They dont charge tax. ANYBODY have any ideas? verizon is around $70 a month including tax for DSL(which is way slower) and phone. They also charge a $60 set up fee.
I called Tmobile and they gave me a hard time and told me that i didn’t qualify. So I told them that I would be filing complaints with the F.C.C and B.B.B.
They may have to let you opt out by law but I bet they don’t make it easy for you as Rigs above has seen.
