It’s Ebay’s Seller Strike Week!

What does a company get when they claim that they will lower prices and really wind up drastically raising them!

Or when in the face of a growing non-paying bidder crisis they tell their sellers that they can still still leave feedback for buyers, as long as it’s positive feedback (sellers will soon no longer be able to leave neutral or negative feedback for buyers .)

A strike!

I’ve been an ebay seller since the very beginning-over a decade-and have watched the eroding morals of this once innovative company.

Back then it was a true community, buyers put implicit faith in the system. All items were paid for by check and sent out once payment cleared…

In my opinion it’s been all downhill since Ebay bought out Paypal.

Ebay revealed just how anti-competitive they are when they banned Google Checkout as a form of payment.

Not only did they ban it, they even pulled advertising from Google when Google tried protesting the ban with a (now expired) promotion to process credit cards for free.

It’s about time that Google (or someone else) make a compelling auction site to give Feebay a run for their money.

There’s more info on the strike running from 02/18-02/25 in the following Youtube video:

When does the strike start?

Mendel

I believe they are right regarding the feedback issue.

The current situation turned the entire feedback system worthless. Most sellers won’t leave feedback until they receive it, and then they leave retaliatory feedback whenever they receive negative feedback, justified or not. So buyers don’t leave negative feedback anymore. That’s how almost every seller has over 98% positive.

Discontinueing the ability for sellers to leave negative feedback will remove the threat of retaliatory feedback, making the feedback system much more reliable.

Know we all know why their stock is going down down down!!

Hi Dan,
I am an ebay seller as well, is there an alternative to ebay??

Mendel:

Removing the seller feedback is not a good idea. A much better idea (I read online that some auction site in South America that was bought by eBay has this policy,) would be to have the feedback hidden until both parties leave the feedback.

While we are on the topic, I received retaliatory bad feedback after a seller listed a used item as new, and went back on their refund offer. eBay refused to even consider removing the retaliatory feedback and suggested I contact the seller and try to mutually withdraw the feedback, yuck.

great idea. now any idea how i can get back moneythat they took away from me cause the buyer said he got an empty box. i know i shpped the item and they didnt listen anyway.

Mendel

Asher,

Then you can simply protect yourself from negative feedback by never leaving any feedback…

lol i just noticed that there is an ad for ebay just –>
of the comment!

buyer feedback is really useless, if the buyer pays then the buyer will get the product if not not, at the moment the buyer feedback is just used as a bargaining chip, and can also be used to cheat the system, getting rid of it is not such a bad idea. ebay is annoying but no one has the buyer base that ebay has besides maybe amazon, but amazon is to restrictive. a alternative is sorely needed who will step up and take ebays place?

Moe

why are you running an ebay ad?

e

i personally don’t see the problem with continuing to make money off them

i sell tens of thousands of dollars a month on ebay and amazon let me say this ebays fees are not as close as amazon that’s right ebay takes less then 5.25% of the fees plus 3% at pay pal when amazon take a 15% fee from the entire sale including shipping yup 15% from every seller and on amazon you cant leave any feedback for the buyer the first comment is correct that’s why on amazon most sellers only have a 85% feedback while on ebay its like 99% positive because buyers are afraid to leave bad feedback so sellers can sell what they want!!!

I stopped selling on ebay when they changed the feedback system. As it was, the buyers had the advantage before with feedback, because we sellers are so concerned about our feedback ratings that we will bend over backward to make sure the buyer is happy, and even then you get lots of cranks who are never satisfied. The “retaliation” concern is fairly bogus, as people always read what both parties say in a feedback dispute, and it’s always fairly clear when someone is just trying to get revenge. It was hard enough on ebay to be protected from deadbeats with the old system, now it’s basically going to be a looting system with the buyers wielding a great big stick over the seller. I’m waiting until ebay changes their mind about this insane policy before I sell anything else on their site. And yes, I am also looking for an alternative auction site.
