Dan,

I was looking into Star Points awards a little bit and I found something pretty interesting.

If someone needs Continental Miles to get a direct flight to Israel the current transfer rate is 2 star points to 1 Continental mile. Factoring in the bonus of 5000 miles when you transfer 20,000 you would get 12,500 miles for your 20,000 making the true transfer rate 62.5 continental miles for 100 starpoints.

If you transfer your starpoints to amtrak guest rewards points you can then turn those amtrak points to continental miles on a 1 to 1 ratio.

Obviously there are better values for your star points but I thought I would throw this option out there for people who need Continental miles.

I am sure you will reply that there are 10 other ways to do this through other airlines but then again maybe not.

Have a great shabbos everybody

Well your SPG-CO method does work, there are a couple huge caveats.

1. You can only transfer 25,000 amtrak points into continental per year! So dont go transferring a whole bunch of SPG points into Amtrak just yet.

2. There is no 5,000 mile bonus for Amtrak transfers.

As I’ve stated before, I believe that AA and Cathay Pacific are the best current SPG transfer partners.

The JetBlue36 coupon through Expedia is NOT a good deal! Expedia has jacked up the prices on JetBlue’s flights…. for instance, the same flight through JetBlue.com that’s $258.80 is $308.80 on Expedia. So even if you use the JETBLUE36 coupon on Expedia, it’s STILL more expensive than booking directly through JetBlue. I called JetBlue to see if I could use the coupon booking through them — they told me no. so it’s NOT a good deal… don’t fall for it! Expedia has jacked up JetBlue’s low prices!!

funny money

Nope, not my experience. Fares are exactly the same – EXCEPT a $5 Expedia booking fee (so you actually save $31 not $36).

Also, you MUST book a round-trip someone earlier suggested booking each segment separately… I listened without looking further (stoopid) and am on hold with Jetblue trying to get the Expedia ticket reversed 🙁

Also take into account you won’t get double true blue points if you book thru Expedia, and I don’t know if they will be as flexible as Jetblue is if you book it directly… so weigh the pros/cons carefully.

Good Luck!
