Starbucks Will End Surcharge For Non-Dairy Milk Substitutes

Back in 2012, Starbucks started charging Rewards members for syrup and non-dairy milk substitutes when they devalued their rewards program.

Since then, Starbucks has devalued their rewards program several more times, and made it less fun by copying airlines in moving to a revenue based program. The Wall Street Journal cited DansDeals for calculating how much Starbucks has devalued its rewards program in the past 8 years.

But the company has a new CEO, and as one of his first orders of business, he is removing the surcharge for non-dairy milk substitutes.

Effective 11/7, substituting soymilk, oatmilk, almondmilk or coconutmilk, will no longer incur a surcharge.

What do you think of this change? Will it have the intended effect of getting you to purchase coffee at Starbucks more often?

Good idea. But in midtown NYC a black grande is $3.97 and has just been going up little by little.

Let them lower those prices and continue to charge for Oatmilk …

He’ll, no. Our Amazon Solimo K-cups bot @ $8.99 for 100 tastes so much better.

Best idea! It’s a bad time

I was a loyal daily customer for close to 7 years. The multiple price increases coupled with gutting their rewards program caused me to stick to free office coffee.

Maybe Dunkin will be next

FYI,
In general, Starbucks stores serve hot treif meat and cheese. Therefore, since 2011, STAR-K Rabbinic Administrator Rav Moshe Heinemann shlit”a suggests that if at all possible one should avoid buying drinks prepared with equipment that may have been washed with treif equipment. There are drinks (see list below) that are prepared without any contact with questionable equipment and are acceptable at any store.
When one is traveling, (traveling means when one is away from home and no other viable kosher certified coffee option is readily available), this creates a situation of sha’as hadchak – i.e., a difficult situation – and one need not be concerned with the restrictions on the beverages listed below

Oy, Moshe. Traveling? Need a drink? Buy a sealed bottle of a kosher beverage. Not having your favorite coffee is not a life threatening situation. Lighten up.

I just stick with the Cold brew!
