The chefman hotplate has an adjustable temperature control so you might want to check with your Rav before buying if you plan on using this as a hotplate for shabbos. I haven’t been able to find their non adjustable hotplate anytime recently. I guess they stopped making it.
Should be able to cover it with foil, but as you said, ask your LOR.
There’s a long/narrow one (23.8 X 8.6) which is a single heat and not adjustable. I use that one and just picked up another for $32.50!
Just realized that the 23 X 8 is used – so need to cancel….
