Dozens of people have sent me a “deal” for Ecco shoes on Amazon for $14.99.
Don’t waste your time, you won’t actually get them. But you may have to fight for a refund.
Unscrupulous 3rd party sellers sell items for ridiculously cheap on sites like Amazon and eBay. They have no intention of actually sending out your items. Instead they’ll mark it as shipped and probably use a fake tracking number. Their hope is that you’ll forget about your order, allowing them to keep your funds. The unscrupulous seller also gets your personal information.
When an item is shipped by Amazon you have nothing to worry about.
When buying from 3rd party sellers it’s critical to check the sellers reviews if it’s not shipped and fulfilled by Amazon. Don’t confuse this with the product’s reviews! Those reviews are for products sold from legitimate sellers.
To view a seller’s reviews just click on their store name where it tells you who ships and sells an itemIn this case the seller is brand new and has no reviews. That’s a red flag telling you to stay away!
People send me “deals” like this all the time. It never works out for them.
Eventually the new seller scams nearly all of their customers and their review page looks like this one:
Eventually Amazon bans these sellers. But not before their customers waste time and effort getting a refund for a product they’ll never receive.
Lesson learned: Don’t buy mispriced products from new sellers or anything from sellers with terrible reviews.

How does amazon allow this? it is straight False Advertisement
Is this what happened with the pyrex and pots from last month? Amazon said they were marked as delivered but I never got them. I did almost forgot about them!
Thanks for the very informative post
@Dave P:
It’s a new seller. When Amazon gets complaints they will be banned, but until then there’s nothing Amazon can do.
@GM:
Who were they sold by?
@abe:
My pleasure.
once or says preparing for shipment, is there away to cancel the order ?? there’s no option
I’ve had this happen to me, and then when seller is shut down they send you tons of spam amazon emails knowing that you have an amazon account.
Will it be hard to get a refund back from amazon?
Amazon can do more…how about requiring some sort of deposit for new sellers?
@Anonymous:
Try calling Amazon.
@Joe:
Sick.
@ELDO:
It may take a few phone calls/chats.
@4yourinfo:
That would harm legit new sellers.
But feel free to email them your feedback.
@4yourinfo: That is a great idea!!!
I agree 100% w Dan.
In October I ordered a recumbent bike at a very low price ($251 less another 10% “discount and free shipping”) for something that never sold below $349. It was a new seller, and was being shipped fr overseas. I was foolish enough to believe that an AMAZON seller is legit.
4-5 months later, ( the seller had provided a “tracking number” ..with the POST OFFICE!), that was totally fake. I’ve filed for a refund, which I assume AMZN will swallow. Big annoyance.) (.Plus I’ve probably gained ten lb fr not having my exercise bike. 🙂
@Dan: @4yourinfo: why does this harm new sellers? when you sign a lease, you are required to post security deposit. just like any contract. maybe if enough people demand it, amazon can be on trial basis. i dont know online retail but that seems legit and looking out for the customer unless of course amzn doesnt care about the customer which people think might be the case…
DARN IT! I JUST BOUGHT 200 OF THESE PAIRS OF SHOES, SENT THEM A WIRE TRANSFER AFTER MY INITIAL PURCHASE FOR A 10% DISCOUNT! @DAN- WHAT DO I DO!
Great post.. a really needed post. Thanks dan.
How can I cancel the order?
If I canceled order right away am I good? should I stop my credit card from giving seller the money?
If you see a seller like that, email notice@amazon.com with a link to the storefront and an explanation that they’re selling items at prices that don’t make sense. Amazon will shut them down if someone looks at it and sees what’s going on.
I just canceled my order.
Thank you
@Seriously: You purchased it Off of Amazon? Directly with the seller?
Cancel option on computer (not on mobile..)
Did you realize the seller has over 500 products and all cost the same price $14.99! Hahaha
@jake: who thinks amazon doesnt care about customers? I have not have a bad customer service experience with them after many issues being resolved. They are far more favorable to buyers than they are for sellers.
Tahnks Dan
I canceled the order, and DM with a rep, who sent an email to the seller requesting they do not ship or charge anything prior to communicating with the buyer.
Pam Doyea has been busy: 11,424 results for Pam Doyea Storefront… and every item is $14.99.
@Dan: I just called Amazon, they said it is in their A to z guarantee to give a refund when a third party seller does not go through with their sales.

@Ben:
I didn’t say you won’t get a refund. Read the post again.
Just spoke to Amazon as well, they said they will stand behind the customer 100% if turns out to be a scam. He is forwarding concerns to supervisor to monitor account
@Ben: What if he marks it as shipped?
I just called Amazon customer support and let them know that this new vendor is a scammer. We were able to cancel most of our orders (around 10) but unfortunately one of them was ” too far along in the process to be canceled” The Amazon Rep sent an email to the seller requesting more information and verification and if the seller doesn’t respond in two days they will be able to cancel the order internally and refund my money . At that point they will probably also close down the seller.
@Rachel:
I never said Amazon wouldn’t take care of you.
Read the post again.
@SteveH oh ye it seems like his batch upload is in middle of being processed out that he is holding a few batches his site store front is growing by the minute
It is liable that he if not even relisting that his items are actually live already and he just made everything $14.99 and was planning to update the prices soon ..oh will he found out a few thousand orders or more candelations
@Dan: Why will I have to figth for a refund when Amazon’s policies clearly states they will give a refund?
@ohwell!: Amazon said if I don’t receive the product by 3/8 I should call them and they will try to contact the seller. if the seller does not reply within about 2 days, amazon will refund me.
@Ben:
I consider having to make multiple phone calls having to fight for a refund.
Some sellers upload fake shipping data, which adds to the number of phone calls the refund will require.
Yes, everyone will be refunded, but why exactly do you want this headache? Just don’t buy from unrated and poorly rated sellers.
@Dan People were initially utilizing your blog to try and discover ways to make sums of money (or ‘cash equivalents’ – gematria sign up bonuses), then they’ve used it to try and save some coin on some great deals, this now is the next natural level – how to not lose your money….
got all my shoes!!
im kidding im on the phone now w amazon working it out
It’s interesting that everything in Pam Doyea’s storefront is 14.99. There are over 11,000 items and many of the items are priced correctly at 14.99. Did they build a webscraper to put together the inventory list?
learned my lesson 5 weeks ago ordering a financial calculater from a new seller for a 1/4 of the going price. i also ordered a scientific calculater from a dif new seller at a bargain. they sent me pirated tracking num for random shippments to kentucky. its a headache to get your refund from amazon. they first need to contact the seller and wait a week etc…. its a headache. lesson learned.
got 2 pairs! trying my luck!
If anyone actually receives their order I will eat my shoe…! 😉
thanks dan, you just saved me a lot of money..or a headache of dealing with amazon..
Here’s my chat with Amazon
Hello,
Here’s a copy of the chat transcript you requested:
Initial Question: Hi, I placed 2 orders today on Amazon for Ecco shoes which were advertised to be on ‘sale’ on Amazon. My order number is 116-1431162-xxxxxxx and 116-1656765-xxxxxxx. After placing my orders, I’ve been told that this seller may be a scam and that I probably won’t receive my order but my CC will be charged. How does Amazon guarantee that this seller will actually deliver these orders and not ship them with fake tracking numbers as it’s being implied by multiple sources on the web?
01:41 PM PST Le(Amazon): Hello, my name is Le. I’m here to help you today.
01:42 PM PST Le: I understand your concern.
01:44 PM PST Le: To be honest I don’t have the information on how we vet our sellers on Amazon.com
01:45 PM PST Le: But I can tell you that your purchase is backed by our A-Z claim.
Which entitles you to a full refund if the seller does not honor the transaction.
01:46 PM PST Me Myself My Shadow and I: so I should leave the order as is and hope that this new seller will actually ship? What happens if they mark all orders as ‘shipped’ and supply Amazon with fake tracking numbers? Will I still have full recourse?
01:48 PM PST Le: Unfortunately we do have bad sellers on our website, but we continually do our best to weed them out. That most involves customers reporting negative feedback on the seller and then we’d report the seller.
01:49 PM PST Le: And yes, you’d still have assurance with the A-Z claim.
01:50 PM PST Me Myself My Shadow and I: OK. so I’ll leave the order and hope for the best. Thanks for your reassurance.
01:51 PM PST Le: I really hate to put it that way, as in “hoping for the best”. But with our A-Z claim, we want to make sure your investment is protected.
01:52 PM PST Me Myself My Shadow and I: thank you so much. have a great day
01:52 PM PST Le: You’re very welcome. Have a good day!
Thank you for contacting Amazon. Please click on the “End Chat” to close this window.
Thank you.
Amazon.com
Now I feel Dumb! I am a pretty decent sized seller on Amazon and I totally fell for this. Ouch!
THIS IS A REAL OFFER.
I just contacted Amazon Customer Chat Support. Whoever is posting that this offer is a scam, does not know what they are talking about. Amazon Customer Chat said the following to me after I asked them “Hi, sorry to bother you, I am about to place an order with a seller. I am not sure if he is reliable or not. He has many products on sale, just unsure if they will end up coming. Can you confirm he is a real seller before I buy?”
Amazon Responded to me today — “hank you for waiting, as I have checked and found that we have authenticated the seller and feel free to buy from this seller, as this seller is also protected by A-Z claim, means if there will be any issue then we will handle the situation and take care of the issue. So no need to worry, your money is safe with seller and amazon. Nobody can see your credit numbers not even amazon.
And if they turn out to be a scam then as I have mentioned above we will handle the situation and will resolve your issue as seller is covered by amazon.”
EDIT
I do not want to take responsibility. I personally canceled my order. Not worth it, and seems way too good to be true.
@Alex Grossman: Of course it’s a real seller. The concern is only that this “real seller” won’t ship what people paid for…
what should I do now? I already placed a order. I requested a cancelation. I hope it works!
When you order something from amazon through a 3rd party seller,do they get your credit card info,or amazon takes care of the info?
thanks dan i didn’t put thru my order i am save a BIG headache good shabbos!!!!
Some of his products says “date First available May 13 2015” and some of it he have over 500 reviews! isn’t it a chance that maybe it is not a scam!?
PS one reviewer says he got a used pear of shoes…!! but its only one most of them got new.
@Try Not To Laugh. I will try, but you had me going there for a bit.
As a legit seller on AZ (30 yrs in business) it frustrates me that these things are allowed by AZ. The Chinese sellers seem to get very preferential treatment. My company has 99% customer ratings and many reviews. We are not perfect, but fix any issue should it arise. If I were selling some of these same items other chinese sellers might look cheaper but they cannot deliver an authentic product or anything at all. They disappear and get away with it opening more accounts. Until customers complain they wont do anything.

Thanks for the warning. It happened to me few months ago. I bought something that was 70% off from at 3rd party and it shows that shipping in 2 months. After purchasing than I looked over on this reseller and people complained about fake tracking number (exactlybas you posted ). I contact Amazon which assure me it is not fake and valid seller. I waited until the time comes and contact Amazon and they cancelled the order. They claimed A-Z claim with this seller and I got refunded by Amazon. It was just a waste of time (not alot, but still waste of time). Thanks for sharing and letting everyone know, I learned my lesson.
@ELDO:
Amazon will refund you, they file a claim (they called it A-Z ) and you’ll get your money back after few days , pretty easy. However what Dan is trying to teach everyone how to avoid doing mistakes and avoid wasting time because you will never get the item you try to purchase.
@Me Myself My Shadow and I: it happened to me too, Amazon rep promised me everything is good.
I would listen to Dan and cancel the order right away. Dont waste your time….
For that reason exactly,
whenever I buy something online,
I write a reminder on my calendar, 30 days ahead,
to check my order
Works every time 🙂
@miko really now? u think dan, with all of his years of experience and a yidishe kup has more brains than a dumb stiff board machine from manila Philippines.ya think? !?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?
@Alex Grossman:
If only Amazon reps knew what they were talking about!!
But they do stand behind their customers, so you will get refunded if anything turns out to be a scam
Just an FYI, “When an item is shipped by Amazon you have nothing to worry about.” because it’s way easier to get your refund. But PLENTY of products shipped (not sold) by Amazon are fakes.
This is seriously an issue. I’ve purchased products from sellers that were either not shipped or had a tracking number for a different shipment, and in the end took an A-to-Z Guarantee filing to get the refund.
Just to let you know a real honest seller
Starting out
Had 15 great reviews
One costumer did not like the new product n compsobea
Amazon shut off seller account and refunded buyer
But didn’t ask buyer to return product
Now what works you say to that
Seller not Manila
But an honest yid
Isn’t disputing the charge a good idea if it takes more 1 phone call?
ouch.
everything on ‘Pam’s website is $14.99
I guess I have a new hassle to deal with next week.
just chatted with amazon; they filed an a-z claim, said they would refund my money
wasn’t too bad a hassle (yet?)
what personal information could they get
I am confused. It seems from the original screen shot this seller had 544 positive reviews and a 4.5 star rating?
People are getting messages that the order is shipped, with a tracking number. Means anything?
@Dan My order with 5 pairs of shoes has been shipped! Can’t prove you wrong yet.. let’s wait until I will receive them :)) will keep you posted
FAKE TRACKING NUMBER!! don’t believe me ? try to track it yourself.
Tracked my shoes ordered and item shows shipped from GUANGZHOU EMS, CHINA sounds to me more like a knock off of Ecco shoes I guess it would all make sense now for only $14.99 no?
@Dan Knows best:
Oh you wanted Eccos?
I think they may be sending out Geckos.
On the plus side, perhaps they talk?
@David:
Read the post again.
for anyone still doubting Dan please give a look
https://www.amazon.com/sp?_encoding=UTF8&asin=&isAmazonFulfilled=&isCBA=&marketplaceID=ATVPDKIKX0DER&orderID=&seller=A3R5PTXG8XW7WA&tab=&vasStoreID=
and btw he is shut down from amazon already https://www.amazon.com/s?marketplaceID=ATVPDKIKX0DER&me=A3R5PTXG8XW7WA&merchant=A3R5PTXG8XW7WA&redirect=true
And because of these scammers we legit Amazon sellers are all soffering because of the new policy started in august that reserves the funds until 7 days after latest delivery date. oh well..
@!:
I love the reviewer who gave 5 stars before even receiving the item.
I even said in the post,
“Instead they’ll mark it as shipped and probably use a fake tracking number.”
lol. btw Dan when i posted the comment the seller was 100% negative! now he got a few stupid positive reviews:)
amazon know that this is a scam on February 23rd as above.
they did not stop the seller till today.it could that amazon it self is behind this scam hopping that some of the people
forget to file a claim so will keep the money.
because why do they require to file a claim they should just refund all orders from this seller.
Interesting enough the day of this post I put in a claim with Amazon to cance the order. 59;/) Monday I got email with tracking number for the shoes. Will keep on it and see if something comes or if get credited frost by amazon
1 order says “ECCO Men’s Holton Apron Toe…” and one other item have shipped.”.
the other says “Your Amazon.com order of “ECCO Men’s Harold Wing Tip…” has been canceled”
:))) go figure!
USPS:
The tracking number may be incorrect or the status update is not yet available. Please verify your tracking number and try again later.
my tracking says that today it arrived at flushing NY on the way to destination! so I guess something is coming
Did any of you guys received a pair of shoes?
Anyone receive their order yet?
Its OVER!! i tried waiting it out till last friday i chatted with amazon and they confirmed that this seller is out of amazon and there is nothing whats-so-ever But i got my refund with no problem with a2z guarantee
@jake: A deposit won’t do much good, as the hacks can easily afford them and would most likely see it as “the cost of doing business “. These newly launched hacks show up overnight, with 50,000 to 150,000 different listings, copied from legitimate sellers.
They will even offer for sale merchandise from Nike, Disney, and other such names as a fraction of the real price. Amazon usually withholds payment to the sellers for two weeks. The hackers, knowing that inform the customers that their product will arrive between 3-4 weeks, and hand out a fake tracking number.
Two weeks later the hackers get paid huge amounts of money, and they transfer it immediately to China where it is untraceable. Eventually Amazon catches on as customers start complaining they didn’t get their goods, and Amazon shuts the fake listing down. The next day new fake names are used to open more accounts, and the whole thing repeats itself.
