Kashrus Update: We were told by the OU yesterday that this product was under their supervision, but readers report getting the product without an OU on it. We continued to investigate this with the OU and here is what we found out:

The OU has looked into this product, and while they now confirm that there are almost identical products that are under their supervision, this specific bottle is indeed not under the OU. However, the OU confirms honey is still kosher without needing a hechsher as centrifuges are used to purify raw honey, which makes it naturally kosher without needing hashgocha.

The OU can be reached at: kosherq@ou.org

Some products show a kosher certification in the image on Amazon and come without a symbol. There are other products that have always been certified and lost their certification etc. The world of Kashrus is large and complex. We do our best to investigate the status of an item before posting, but it is up to each individual to ascertain the kashrus of a product before consuming it.

Nate’s 100% Pure Raw & Unfiltered Honey And Comb 16oz. Jar For $7.57-$7.97 Shipped From Amazon

Perfect timing for Rosh Hashana.

This was selling for $13.79 and is now the lowest price ever from Amazon.

  • Delectable honeycomb surrounded by Nature Nate’s 100% Pure Raw & Unfiltered Honey is perfect for sweetening beverages and recipes like acai bowls or smoothies, or as a processed sugar alternative
  • Just as nature intended, the strained honey is gently warmed to retain existing pollen count and its nutrient rich composition; edible honeycomb comb cut from the hive adds delicate, crisp texture
  • Nature Nate’s 100% Pure Raw & Unfiltered Honey and Comb is simply made, containing only two ingredients—honey and beeswax
  • Add honey to coffee or tea, drizzle on cheese, brush on foods for caramelized flavor or marinate, or pair with roasted nuts, grilled fruit or root vegetables for sweet balanced flavor
  • The bold flavor and soft yet crispy texture, honeycomb is the perfect topping on salads, ice cream, bread and cheese, oatmeal, yogurt, smoothie bowls, sandwiches and more

Not kosher certified?

Uman

Kosher?

Channah

Does this need a hechsher? According to the CRC, pure honeycomb does not, but raw honey does – and it appears this product has raw honey added to it.

R

Some of the nate’s honey products have ou hechsher
Does this one have an ou?

bp27

Interesting that all the other Nate’s Honeys are OU certified (best honey by the way!), but this one doesn’t seem to have an OU. Doesn’t appear on the OU site. Correct me if I am wrong.

BTW, breaking apart a honeycomb on Shabbos and Yom Tov is problematic.

Josh

See questions on the bottom of the page. The company said that this one is not kosher.

Q: Specifically this bottle does not have the ou kosher symbol. and your other honey does have the kosher certification. is this not kosher certified ?
A: Honey with Comb is not Kosher. For easy reference, Nate’s Raw & Unfiltered Honey, Organic Honey and Hot Honey products are OU Kosher certified.

Damn, all this waiting around to hear the final kosher or non-kosher verdict and I missed this deal. Should have just listened to my man double j. Who am I kidding, I’m just tempted by the non-kosher (ps my wife is a shiksa).

alive again

Knowing the market well, BH, and based on what prominent experts told me, OU is not enough for ‘Raw Honey’ for Hemisha Yidden.

Little bit Jewish

Just my two cents. OU Labs is the best when it is honey and other raw ingredients. They have very qualified and trained employees who understand and supervise the manufacturing process of these items. A lot of Hemisha raw products is just a relabeling of OU supervised productions with no value added other than a different branding or label. When you are talking dairy it whole different story.

Perfect for my RH table, tysm

Simcha

I contacted the OU online and their response was “We are not seeing any certified versions that include the comb. It could be that it was filed under one of the versions of raw and unfiltered honey or it could be a non-certified version. We recommend asking the manufacturer if it is certified or not. If it is certified, ask them for an LOC or a UKD so that we can verify. The Webbe Rebbe”

Simcha

I contacted the company and they said this product is NOT certified.

Frumie

Please note the there may be an issue to separate honey from the comb on Shabbos or Yom Tov due to the melacha of Measrek (combing) ask your LOR.

No sign of hashgacha on the package. This on the amazon website 09/26/24 “Based on the product information, Nature Nate’s 100% Pure Raw & Unfiltered Honey and Comb is not certified kosher. While their other honey products are mentioned as OU Kosher certified, this specific variety containing honeycomb is stated to not be kosher in response to a customer question.”

Saul

Mine came today and there’s NO OU or any Hechsher anywhere on the bottle. I did call the OU and they told me that they DON’T certify this BUT they believe it’s acceptable even without certification. This is an OU policy but not a certification. You can either go with the OU opinion or ask your own Rabbi.

RA

This is not OU certified. Please remove that from the listing. Thank you

DZ the Telzer

Who said this, it this from the ou “ it is kosher without needing a hechsher as the company uses a centrifuge for this product, which makes it naturally kosher without needing hashgocha. ”

Chaim

Please be advised you may not push the honey out of the honeycomb on yom tov

marko

mine came without ou and now i cannot gift it as intended what a bummer

Dan

The OU says it is kosher even without their symbol. You can email them for more info and provide that information with it.

Raphael Rosin

It specifically says unfiltered, honey needs to be filtered for wings. You can filter it yourself if you’re up for that

DZ The Telzer

This is what I got from the OU, they would not confirm that it can be used
“The honey with comb is not certified by the OU.

There is a discussion if raw honey needs hashgacha or is acceptable without. We recommend that you ask your rav or local vaad for guidance.”

Dan

Blah. Kashrus politics.

Try calling their hotline for a straight answer. The OU posek we reached looked into it and said it was kosher without a need for a hechsher on the bottle due to the centrifuge process they use with this product.

Yossi Burger

i got it and it says on the bottle that it gets warmed up before packing …

Di

On rosh hashana and in these days before Yom Hardin we should all be extra careful with hechsherim
