Great deal! I have the 202 which is the same thing just with 2 lines, and it’s great.

I still am confused

I don’t have a computer or internet at home can i still make this work?

Dan

@Anonymous:
Can you pick up someone else’s WiFi signal?

Sam

This sounds good, but I would have no idea how to use my current landline number on this service

Dans the Man

I have the Virizon MIFI personal 4G Hotspot.will this work with that?

dans fan

Moishe

Any reason to get this if I have the 110 ? If yes, I’m still set up with vestalink. Will I only need to unplug the old & plug in this one or will I need to redo everything ?

pcgeek

@Sam: It says in the post

Chaim

Will it work with my usb headset and eyebeam dialer?

Dan

@Sam:
You can port the number to a prepaid mobile phone and then from there to Google Voice.

@Dans the Man:
You would need to get something like this as well I believe:

Dan – I understand that it says it in the post, but I do not know how to port numbers.

cybermon

to join s/o wifi will i need the wifi router?

dav

You can use any old smartphone with the google hangouts app to access google voice in a similar fashion without the obi

david

DEAL IS OVER

rech

I have ooma is this better than ooma?

YMW

Will this work in Canada?

Ralf

So this can be use through wifi with the additional wireless adapter?

Dan

@dav:
Point is for people who want to have a landline phone in the house.

@rech:
This is cheaper and $0/month.

@YMW:
Works worldwide.

shauly101

if i want to get a neighbors WiFi signal do i need the WiFi adapter?

yossi

How is this better than Magic Jack?

dav

@Dan: Even with the obi you are not going to have a real land line. Obi gives you access to google voice for a regular phone that cant access wifi on its own. With an old smartphone you just have to simply download google voice/hangouts and your good to go.

delaslover

@dav: can you please explain?

Dan

@dav:
When you want a way for the babysitter or kids to be able to reach you, I think a landline works out far better than an old smartphone.

Jill

got on the wait list and got it! thanks @dan!

Dan

@Jill:
Nice!

I have ooma, can I port the number to Google voice?

Dan's the Man

@Anonymous: I think Google Voice only ports in numbers from wireless carriers. I think you could buy a T-Mobile prepaid SIM card (I think they’re currently on sale for $0.99 with free shipping) activiate it on Pay as you Go plan (I think you can put as little as $10 on the line to activiate it). Port your number to T-Mobile as soon as the port is complete port it to Google Voice. I have a legacy Ooma plan and therefore pay $0 a month so I would never port my number to Google Voice. Ooma is better than the Omi/Google Voice combination if you have the $0 ooma plance. I would do Omi/Google Voice over paying $4 a month for ooma.

Bay

There is only a wait list:(

Dan

@Bay:
So add yourself to it?

@yossi: ?

Moe

I have a built in landline system in my home. Would it be possible to make this work with that system or I would need to replace the landline system with a base and cordless phones?
What about my alarm system that goes through landline?
Lastly, does this slow down the wifi/internet?

Estee

Will this work in Israel?
Thanks!

Dan

@Estee:
Yes.

Anonymous

@Dan: please answer @Moe

Thank you!

JOSH

@DAN PLEASE ANSWER @MOE I WANT TO KNOW FOR THE LANDLINE CAN THIS BE USED AND BE CONNECTED TO THE ALARM SYSTEM? AND WHAT IF I NEED FOR 3 LINES? CAN I USE 1 OF THESE OR WOULD I NEED TO BUY 3 OF THEM?

martin

does it have a charge for cellphone calls?

JOSH

HEY DAN ANY ANSWER FOR @MOE AND JOSH? THANKS!

New Dan Follower

@Dan I just got this in the mail, I currently have a Verizon home connect phone. Is that considered a mobil number that can be ported to GV?

Jake

Just completed the process: Here are all the costs (plus tax) you will have to pay, assuming you are porting an existing landline:

1. $30 for the Obi
2. $0.99 for the T-Mobile sim card
3. $10 for a starter T-Mobile pay-as-you-go plan (so you can receive a confirmation call from Google Voice)
4. $20 to port your number to Google Voice
5. $15 for an Anveo E911 service (not worth doing without)
So it comes out to $76, well worth the price of never having to pay Optimum for phone again, when all they do anyway is give you a VOIP line through their own SIP (POTS went away long ago). All I can hope for now is that they don’t raise my internet rate because I no longer have a package.

Thanks Dan for bringing this to my attention.
