Ok, it was showing the “The promotional code you entered cannot be applied to your purchase.” for me as well.
But if you look carefully, the box in Step 3: Review items and shipping. It shows: Qualifying offers
Congratulations on your gift card purchase. Your first Prime Day gift card purchase qualifies you for an Amazon.com credit. A $12.50 promotional credit will be automatically applied to your account and emailed to you within two (2) days after order completion. Offer has a limit of one promotional credit per Amazon.com Prime account.
So just don’t enter the code and as long as you see the box with the above message, you should be ok.

Correct, if it said applied then you are good. Can’t apply is because it was already applied to your account.
