Update: Sellers are reporting that Amazon is still allowing shipments of non-essential items to be created. You’ll want to make those ASAP before they stop allowing them.
Amazon is facing employee losses and a lack of supply of essential items due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In response, Amazon told 3rd party sellers today that they will suspend the creation of new shipments to Amazon for Amazon fulfilled shipping of non-essential items. Shipments already created and 3rd party items in Amazon warehouses will continue to be fulfilled by Amazon.
Essential items include Baby Products, Health & Household, Beauty & Personal Care, Grocery, Industrial & Scientific, and Pet Supplies.
This is in effect through at least April 5th.
Sellers can still ship their own items, but Amazon won’t take care of the fulfillment.

Your title is misleading. Amazon will not suspend shipments to customers, which the title seems to be saying…
Correct – The information thus far indicates Amazon is not accepting inbound 3rd party shipments to their fulfillment centers, but IS fulfilling outbound orders for 3rd party shipments going out of their FC’s.
That’s what the post says. Hard to convey everything in 120 characters.
How about: Amazon will suspend incoming FBA shipments from 3rd party sellers for Non-Essential Items (89 characters)
Updated.
Nice! Thanks
Granted. Though more accurate is “Amazon Suspending Inbound FBA Shipments For Non-Essential Items”
Agree
We sell mostly in Health and household categories but nothing essential…
You probably can finagle it a bit that it’s “essential”
And just like that, Amazon snaps their fingers and makes tens of thousands people loose all their parnassah.
Lots of people are losing parnassah.
It’s not Amazon that makes people loose their parnassah….
Precisely
Sorry but listen to a retailer with decades of experiences. There is never a foolproof system. Owning a real brick and mortar store means no one can stop you. All these alternates such as Amazon and eBay come with risks of being frozen or even having your money seized. It is great when it works!
Unless the gov’t shuts all nonessential stores
I’m a on the side small seller. Should have seen this coming. Sell mostly electronics and this affects me a little.
I got the email, but as of now it is letting me create shipments
Take advantage while you still can.
Create shipments for everything you have and anything you are expecting to come in. NOW.
Updated the post.
This is crazy Amazon is going nuts
Or use a good 3rd party fulfillment service. Some cater very well to Amazon sellers
I figured we were safe when I saw the news that Amazon was hiring 100k additional workers… but there have been rumors for a few days that Amazon was shutting down certain fulfillment centers.
Is this worldwide or only US?
US and UK
Can confirm – they have stopped taking creations in UK

Where does this apply?
This is currently being applied to the US and EU marketplaces.
Unable to create new shipments now. System is only allowing items already in send/replenish queue. Wow. Just wow. Amazon rolls out some things in waves. So your experience may be different. Stunned.
Not Amazon is taking away your parnassah. And not Amazon gives you parnassah. Its all in the hands of HASHEM!
shkoach well said. BH.
“This will be in effect today through April 5, 2020, and we will let you know once we resume regular operations.”
Frequently asked questions
What products am I able to ship to FBA?
We are prioritizing household staples, medical supplies, and other high-demand products coming into our fulfillment centers so that we can more quickly receive, restock, and deliver these products to customers. Most of the products we are accepting at this time are in the below categories.
Baby Products
Health & Household
Beauty & Personal Care (including personal care appliances)
Grocery
Industrial & Scientific
Pet Supplies
Listing products in an inaccurate category is a violation of our listing policies and may result in account suspension.
50 years later:
…and that is the story of how Purell bought Amazon…
While not listed in their email, the ‘Home & Kitchen’ category appears to still be accepting shipments.
‘Home & Kitchen’ category is giving me an error:
Temporarily prioritizing products coming into our fulfillment centers
We are temporarily prioritizing household staples, medical supplies, and other high-demand products coming into our fulfillment centers so that we can more quickly receive, restock, and deliver these products to customers. For products other than these, we have temporarily disabled shipment creation. We are taking a similar approach with retail vendors.
Hmm… I have 5 Home & Kitchen ASINs that are still accepting shipments.
It is not a blanket ban based on category. It is item by item and based on inventory. I have a variation listing with a 50 pack of an item and a 100 pack. The 100 pack that is low on stock I can send in, while the 50 pack that is well stocked gets the “Can’t send in” message.
I also had an item this morning that I couldn’t send in but late in the day after more sales came through, it did allow me to set up a new shipment.
You have to check each item individually.
Good to know. Thanks!
