The Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express is offering 35K Starpoints if you signup up by today and meet the spend threshold. That’s 40% more points than normal and is the highest SPG signup bonus ever offered.
Later this year Marriott plans to launch a single technology platform for Marriott and Starwood. AMEX and Chase are both planning to release several new credit cards later this year as well for the merged company. Hint: They won’t have Starwood branding.
The increased Starwood bonus typically only comes around once or twice per year, so it’s possible that this may be the final increased offer ever for the Starwood AMEX, or we may see one more opportunity.
Marriott values 1 Starwood point at 3 Marriott points and allows you to convert points back and forth, making 35K Starpoints convertible into 105,000 Marriott points. That’s a very generous valuation and creates highly lucrative opportunities. But more importantly, the transfer ratio was Marriott’s way of saying that they do value Starwood loyalists and will do right by them in this merger.
One thing we’ve learned from the loss of Airtran, America West, Continental, Northwest, and USAirways is that it’s always worthwhile to take advantage of the welcome offers on cards before they disappear.
Currently the Starwood AMEX offers more points per dollar in every category than the Chase Marriott card due to the 1:3 conversion ratio from SPG to Marriott. It remains to be seen how that will be reconciled in a combined program.
It’s hard to say at this point what exactly will happen, but one thing is for sure. If you are on the fence, now is definitely the time to signup for a business Starwood card due to what is possibly the final limited time offer expiring today.
This post has more details on the offer and how to apply for a business card.
Will you signup for a Starwood business card before it’s too late?

What’s the reg spending threshold?
I’d like to apply, but the $7k spend is out of reach for most if you have to do it organically
Have any taxes or other bills to pay?
prepay year of car insurance etc…
can i transfer my balance from my consumer spg card and use that to reach the spending bonus?
Got it. Thanks dan!
Hint for others: prepay monthly cable, monthly phone bills, and ezpass to aid in the min spend (pending you have the money available to front those purchases)
