Update: DEAD!
You can register here for 30% bonus when you transfer hotel points to United miles.
- The promotion runs through 11/30. It is run by United, so you won’t see any mention of it on the hotel’s points site or during the transfer process. As long as you initiate the transfer by 11/30 you will get the bonus from United.
- United will add 30% bonus miles for all transfers from hotel programs made between 10/9-11/30.
- You can earn up to 25K bonus miles with this promotion per United account.
-United will add the bonus miles by 1/30/19.
Hotel point transfers to airlines are mostly not worthwhile even with this bonus, with the exception of Marriott.
- Earn Marriott points on cards like:
- Chase Marriott Premier Plus Consumer card
- Starwood AMEX Consumer card
- Starwood AMEX Luxury Consumer card
- Starwood AMEX Business card
-You can transfer 60K Marriott Rewards points (20K Starpoints) into 27.5K United miles. United will add 30% more miles by 1/30/19, leaving you with 35,750 miles. That’s a transfer ratio of 0.596 United miles per Marriott point (or 1.79 United miles per Starpoint).
Note that even 2 months after the merger, Marriott’s mileage conversion tool still doesn’t account for the 15K bonus Marriott points they add onto a transfer when you transfer in increments of 60K points, but those points will be added. The tool calculates 60K points as converting into 22K United miles at the 3:1.1 ratio (or 20K miles with other airlines at the 3:1 ratio) but you’ll actually get 27.5K United miles (or 25K miles with other airlines) for every 60K points transferred thanks to the 15K bonus Marriott points that will be added onto that transfer.
If you want to come close to maximizing this promotion you can transfer 180K Marriott points to United (60K Starpoints) the tool will say you’ll get 66,000 United miles, but you’ll actually get 82,500 United miles due to the bonus 45K Marriott points you’ll get for making the transfer in 3 increments of 60K points. United will add 24,750 bonus miles by 1/30/19, leaving you with 107,250 miles.
Another possible option is with Marriott’s devalued miles+nights travel packages. Marriott’s new restrictive terms say that airlines won’t give bonus miles for these packages, so this would be a gamble. However nothing on United’s site excludes these packages and they did work last year. 7 nights at a category 1-4 hotel and 55K United miles (plus a potential 16.5K bonus from United) would cost 255K Marriott points. 7 nights at a category 1-4 hotel and 110K United miles (plus a potential 25K bonus from United) would cost 330K Marriott points.

is it worth transferring SPG to United or only Marriott?
There is no SPG anymore. If you login via SPG points have already been converted to Marriott.
Nice, any promotions from any other airline? American? JetBlue? Delta. Thinking about transferring spg points to one.
No.
You usually do a breakdown of flight examples you can take with their point cost. Any way to do that now?

How long does it take to transfer points from Marriott till it reaches your United account?
Should post within a week.
How much is a flight from nyc to fll with United? Just to get a picture of the “basic” value of 35,000 united points…
https://www.united.com/web/en-us/apps/mileageplus/awards/travel/awardTravel.aspx?POS=US
12.5K each way.
Any update on what you can get as refund for Cat 1-4 or other Category unused certificates? It was 45k before anybidea if that changed?
Dan as far as I knew spg miles wasn’t worth to transfer to United as they didn’t transfer into 1.25 as with other lines. Have that changed besides that specific promo ?
SPG no longer exists.
Marriott to United is now a 3:1.1 ratio as described in this post.
“Hotel point transfers to airlines are mostly not worthwhile even with this bonus, with the exception of Marriott.” .. so it’s not worthwhile to transfer Ultimate Rewards to Hilton Honors at a 1:1 and then to United for the 30% bonus on your UR:United?
Correct, you would lose your pants on that transfer.
And what of the RewardsPlus transfer of United to Marriott, 1:1? Could you potentially round-trip points and keep collecting the 30% bonus?? lol… (though mile>point is capped at 50k/year..)
You would lose your pants in that process as Marriott-United is 3:1.1
I have 317,000 Marriott points I would much rather have United miles should I do all of them? If I understand correctly I should do them in increments of 60k?
Please let me know
Thank you
This promotion caps out at 25K bonus United miles.
As I wrote, a transfer of 180K Marriott points would come pretty close to maximizing that bonus as United would add 24,750 miles to that transfer.
You could potentially transfer to a spouse or family member though and they can also earn up to 25K bonus United miles.
Thank you
Can we transfer points from one Marriott account to another like it was with SPG?
How does it work with Marriott?
Limited amounts only. Call Marriott to do so.
So how do you do it?
Click on the links in this post.
So I can transfer to spouse United account?
Not sure, but you can transfer Marriott points to your spouse for an award by calling Marriott.
Can i do the choice transfer (with the bonus mile promotion now)? Similar to your post https://www.dansdeals.com/airfare-deals/mileage-deals/buy-united-miles-cheap-via-choice-hotels-30-purchased-points-bonus-stackable-150-30-transfer-bonuses/
@Dan would you say that this is the best choice for Marriott points [after the merge]?
Will Hilton Honor points work with this?
Yes, but you will lose your pants in the transfer.
will the bonus points come before 1/30?
Dan,
I just transferred 60k points from Marriott to United on October 8 which showed in my account on Oct 9 but the date shown is 10/8. Is there any recourse for me? Can I request them to match this promotion?
Can’t hurt to ask or Tweet @United
missed the date, as my child was unwell, do you think i can still make it, or i should wait for another day?
How king does the transfer take?
Do you need to make the transfers in increments of 60k to get the 15k bonus each time? I just transferred 240k into Qantas to try for an El Al flight. They told me on the phone I’d end up with 100k Qantas miles, but now the language you have in this post is making me nervous!
240K is an increment of 60K.
Yes; I guess I took what you wrote as doing each transaction of no more than 60k points, i.e. 240k Marriott would only get you 85k. Thanks for clarifying.
Dan – What is the theme song United uses?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cH2PH0auTUU
i think last year was the deal much better
whats the rate from hilton to united?
When I type in to transfer 60,000 marriot points it show me that I will get 22,000. Shouldn’t it show me 27,500?
Read the post.
Dan wasn’t the last years transfer much more valuable?
Unless you can revive murdered Marriott travel packages, I’m not sure what your point is.
that’s the point is it worth to transfer with current travel package?
Worth is relative.
Hello, If i did a Marriott travel package for 330,000 points it would yield a cat 1-4 hotel 7 night cert and 110,000 miles… does this 30% increase work on the 110,000 miles and give me 110,000 + 33,000 = 143,000 ??
Read the post.
Can I transfer marriot to united if I don’t have a united account? Can I open an account with united without a credit card?
No need for a credit card.
Hey Dan,
I have been living under a rock so please excuse my question. Is it necessary to merge my SPG and Marriot account?
Thanks!
Yes.
If I open a united account and transfer marriot points, how long do the pounts live? Can I lose them if I don’t do anything with them for a while?
can I transfer Marriot to united with a different name?
Does it make a difference if I initiate the transfer from my Marriott account or SPG? Is there anything that I need to know about the transfer to do it properly, to get the points?
Is it worth it to transfer my Chase UR points to Marriott, then transfer from Marriott to United?
Im not sure what I am doing wrong. I enter 60,000 Marriott points but it shows that it will only convert to 22,000 United poins (and not the 27.5k referenced above in the post). Why?
Note that even 2 months after the merger, Marriott’s mileage conversion tool still doesn’t account for the 15K bonus Marriott points they add onto a transfer when you transfer in increments of 60K points, but those points will be added. oh. And then the 30% on top of that, making the total 35,750?
Says everything in the post.
OK. TY. I misunderstood.
Hi i transferred points last week and i registered today with united for the bonus will i sill get the 30 % bonus ?
Has anyone’s 30% bonus been applied yet? I realize United has until 1/30/19, but I am curious. I am guessing they will just batch this up do it in one shot on 1/30/19.
I did my transfer mid-October, got the regular points by Oct. 23, still waiting on the promo points rebate.
Is it worth transferring 100k Marriott points to United?
Ahhhhh…today, day of posting, is DECEMBER 1st 2018…..
Offer ENDED November 30th……?
Getting this reminder is nice, but not so much so at 345pm on a Friday. ….
I tried the transfer and it said your mileage number is either invalid or not eligible. The number is valid so are there restrictions as to who can transfer?
Seems like the link is still active and it doesn’t say anything about an expiration date of 11/30
By bonus has still not posted.
Was it required that you register in order to get the bonus?
Don’t remember if i did so
It was required.

Marriot clawed back the 15k bonus – was this done to everyone?
