Learn more about how to book Qatar Avios award bargains!
Update, 5/2: Despite the terms stating that the 30% bonus points will post on 6/15, they are actually posting instantly together with the transferred points!
Disclaimer: Qatar continues to host Hamas’ politburo leadership, which it has done since 2012 and says it will continue to do while mediation efforts are in effect. Those efforts led to the release of several dozen hostages. The country funded Hamas in the past, though that was done with Israel’s request and coordination. Qatar Airways is fully owned by the country of Qatar. Should you fly on Qatar Airways? Should you use their program to save miles or cash versus other programs? I’m reporting the news of what can be done with Qatar Avios, and if you’re on the fence, I’d suggest asking a trusted source of guidance on what you should do in this situation.
Transfer Citi ThankYou Points To Qatar Avios And Get A 30% Bonus
When you convert Citi ThankYou points to Qatar Avios by 5/31 at 4:59pm ET, you’ll get a 30% bonus.
Qatar will add the bonus Avios by June 15th.
Qatar has an excellent partner award chart, with short-haul flights like NYC-Cleveland, Detroit, Montreal, Pittsburgh, or Toronto for 6,000 Avios (4.6K Citi points) in coach or 12,500 Avios (9.6K Citi points) in business class. Or fly between NYC and Miami for 9,000 Avios (6.9K Citi points) in coach or 16,500 Avios (12.6K Citi points) in business class. Cancelations cost $25.
Fly short-haul for just 6K Avios (4.6K Citi points) each way:
While British Airways Avios, you’ll pay a fortune in fuel surcharges to fly overseas on American, a business class ticket from JFK to London will set you back 62K Avios + $1,002:
But you can save a ton by booking with Qatar Avios, the same business class ticket on AA will be 62K Avios + $237:
You can also use Qatar Avios for bargains on JetBlue, which has its own unpublished partner award chart that I put together:
Flight distance | Economy | Business | Sample routes |
---|---|---|---|
0-1,100 | 8.5K | 17K | JFK-Boston, Chicago, or Fort Lauderdale |
1,101-2,000 | 13K | 26K | JFK-Aruba, S. Maarten, or S. Thomas |
2,081-2,800 | 18,500 | 74K | JFK-Barbados, Liberia, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, or Seattle |
2,801-3,700 | 25K | 78K | JFK-Amsterdam, Dublin, London, or Paris |
A JetBlue flight from NYC to Miami is just 8.5K Qatar Avios:
A JetBlue flight from NYC to Paris is just 25K Qatar Avios in economy or 78K Avios in Mint business class, with no fuel surcharges.
Award availability on JetBlue to Europe is excellent.
I took advantage of that deal to fly to Paris last year in JetBlue Mint business class.
You can also use Qatar Avios for travel on Qatar, where you can redeem points for their business class QSuites, considered one of the best business class seats:
You can also transfer Avios between other Avios programs including British Airways, Aer Lingus, Iberia, Qatar, and soon, Finnair.

Will you transfer any Citi points to Avios?

B”H – in your disclaimer you eloquently write that “The country funded Hamas in the past, though that was done with Israel’s request and coordination.” I’m sorry, but this sounds like some sort of justification for what the country of Qatar has been involved with. I think it is shameful to advertise anyone or anything that is remotely related to the murder of Jewish people and I strongly recommend that you reconsider posting about this airline in the future!
I’m not justifying anything, I’m stating facts which aren’t disputed.
This isn’t an advertisement, it’s keeping people informed, with which they can ask their LOR or source of guidance on what to do with that information.
We have throttled postings on availability of awards to fly on Qatar since 10/7, but this deal involves the cheapest way to use miles on AA and JetBlue, which is a big degree of separation from flying on Qatar.
Worth listening to this interview. These situations are always more nuanced than the general public portrays them.

But they serve Non gebrokts. ♂️
It’s okay, it was nitchan achar haPesach. Whichever Pesach.
Qatar’s government unfortunately has indeed funded Hamas, but its last couple of rounds of funding of Hamas was done at the request of Netanyahu. While Qatar had wanted out of that relationship with Hamas, Netanyahu wanted the Qatari’s dollars to keep flowing to Hamas.
I am mercenary when it comes to frequent flyer programs. If QR’s program is providing me a better frequent flyer program deal than other airlines, I would take advantage of QR and try to be their least valuable and most costly frequent flyer program customer. Better the Qatari government subsidize frequent flyer program customers than terrorist organizations and other militant actors.
To be fair, I always try to be every frequent flyer program’s worst customer. 😀
But yes, that’s even more motivation!
Really?! You are alleging that Netanyahu is funding Hamas that’s murdering innocent Jews?! You’re a typical anti semitic pig. Are you enjoying your joyride at Columbia University?
2 hours ago: Former Mossad Chief admits to government funding for Hamas via Qatar, calls policy a mistake. Back track four years: “On Wednesday two weeks ago the head of Mossad… and the head of [IDF] Southern Command visit Qatar on an errand from Netanyahu, and they simply beg the Qataris to keep sending money to Hamas after March 30. The Qataris have said they will stop sending money on March 30,” Feb, 2020.

AA is no longer on the dropdown on Qatar for ‘flights with our partners’?
How can I search/book AA flights on the Qatar website? I see you’ve given instructions for what to do for Jetblue if your city isn’t listed, but what about AA? I’m not able to input either the city or the destination (even though I know AA has flights to/from those locations). Thanks!
Ditto
can only search JFK not EWR or LGA
I booked last night EWR-PHX in the qatar app.
very easy process. I am not sure what issues people have
How quickly do the bonus points generally post
TYP to QR took about 15 minutes, I did not know about the 30% promo. I needed 52k. So I transferred 52k. But ended up with 67,600. In my QR account. So it was almost instant for me
They posted instantly for me, it seems to be hardcoded on Qatars side, in under a minute from when I transferred from Citi, the points along with the bonus posted. Even got a notification on the Qatar app.
Can i combine qatar and british avios? I tried linking from BA and from Qatar websites, and both of them, the link to combine accounts does not work
Looks like it was pulled early. Not seeing the 30% bonus anymore, despite being before 16:59 ET.
I created Qatar Privilege Club account today and transferred 28k Citi TY points at 4PM EST. Obviously, they won’t show up right away, but what if they canceled this 30% offer before my transfer?
Also on the Qatar site seeing the list of airlines (OneWorld), I don’t see JetBlue. How come?
FYI that transfers to Finnair now work as well.
Finnair has joined Avios. You can move those Avios towards Finnair (especially long domestic USA flights).
