Transfer Citi Points To Etihad And Get A 20%-40% Bonus
Transfer miles from Citi to Etihad by 10/31 at 3:59pm ET and you will get bonus miles, as follows:
- Transfer 1,000 to 9,999 miles, receive 20% Bonus Miles on each transaction.
- Transfer 10,000 to 49,999 miles, receive 30% Bonus Miles on each transaction.
- Transfer 50,000+ miles, receive 40% Bonus Miles on each transaction.
The terms state that the bonus miles will post by mid-November, though in the past the bonus miles from this promotion have posted instantly. If you try it, let us know what happens!
Etihad has a distance-based award chart for partner airlines, like AA and El Al. You’ll have to call Etihad to book El Al award flights.
A short-haul flight on AA up to 500 miles in distance is just 6K miles in coach, excluding the 20-40% bonus. Oddly though, the airline rounds up to require a few more points than advertised.
Two huge caveats with Etihad miles is that the award cancellation fees are usurious and miles will now expire after 18 months, unless you credit a flight to the program.
One-way rates on El Al, excluding the 20-40% bonus:
- Larnaca to Tel Aviv will cost 6K coach, 7.5K premium, or 20K business each way.
- Athens to Tel Aviv will cost 12K coach, 13K premium, or 25K business each way.
- Budapest, Dubai, Rome, or Vienna to Tel Aviv will cost 15K coach, 19K premium, or 30K business each way.
- Milan or Zurich to Tel Aviv will cost 23K coach, 25K premium, or 40K business each way.
- London or Paris to Tel Aviv will cost 28K coach, 31K premium, or 50K business each way.
- Boston or NYC to Tel Aviv will cost 67K coach, 74K premium, or 120K business each way.
- Fort Lauderdale, Miami, or LA to Tel Aviv will set you back 75K coach, 90K premium, or 140K business each way.
A 40% bonus will make those rates more palatable. NYC to Tel Aviv will cost 47.8K Citi points in coach, 52.8K Citi points in premium, or 85.7K Citi points in business each way.
You can search for El Al award space on Virgin Atlantic’s website and call Etihad to book.
You can spend 160,000 Etihad miles (114.2K Citi points) plus $544 to fly one-way in Etihad first class apartments. If you’re dreaming of Etihad’s Residence though, it appears that the upgrade option is only available on paid tickets.
