You can now link your Uber account to earn Delta miles. To do so, open the Uber app, click on Account, and then on Partner Rewards.
You will earn:
- 3 miles per dollar on Uber Reserve
- 2 miles per dollar on Uber XL, SUV, Comfort, Black, and Black SUV
- 1 mile per dollar on Uber X rides to the airport.
- 1 mile per dollar on $40+ Uber Eats orders.
I value Delta miles at about 1.2 cents each, so that’s a rebate of:
- 3.6% on Uber Reserve
- 2.4% on Uber XL, SUV, Comfort, Black, and Black SUV
- 1.2% on Uber X rides to the airport.
- 1.2% on $40+ Uber Eats orders.
You can choose to earn either Delta miles or Marriott points. If you choose Marriott, you will earn:
- 3 points per dollar on Uber XL, SUV, Comfort, Black, and Black SUV
- 2 points per dollar on Uber Reserve
- 2 points per dollar on $40+ Uber Eats orders delivered to a Residence Inn, Towneplace Suites, or Element Hotels.
- 1 mile per dollar on $40+ Uber Eats orders.
I value Marriott points at about 0.6 cents each, so that’s a rebate of:
- 1.8% on Uber XL, SUV, Comfort, Black, and Black SUV
- 1.2% on Uber Reserve
- 1.2% on $40+ Uber Eats orders delivered to Residence Inn, Towneplace Suites, or Element Hotels.
- 0.6% on $40+ Uber Eats orders.
So, yes. For most people, you will be better off switching from Marriott earnings to Delta earnings. That being said, if your value of Delta miles and Marriott points differs significantly or you only use Marriott points and not Delta miles, that will change the calculus.
After you link your Delta account, you will be prompted to save your selection:
You can toggle your selections back and forth for points earnings, so for example, if you do value 3 Marriott points over 2 Delta miles, you can switch to Marriott before taking an Uber XL, SUV, Comfort, Black, and Black SUV. Or you can switch to Marriott to earn 2 Marriott points per dollar instead of 1 Delta mile per dollar on $40+ Uber Eats deliveries to Residence Inn, Towneplace Suites, or Element Hotels.
