Etihad has finally brought their A380s back online. Those planes feature first class apartments that have a seat and a bed, along with a shower to boot.
I enjoyed flying it on my way home from the Maldives in 2017.
There is very good award availability from JFK to Abu Dhabi in A380 first class apartments over the next month. Etihad blocks partners from booking this award space more than a month in advance. Availability is poor for the return flight, so you’ll probably have to find another redemption option for that direction.
The best way to book this is with American miles, which will set you back 115K AA miles+$7 versus 160K Etihad miles+$544 one way. However, you can transfer AMEX, Capital One, and Citi points to Etihad, while AA doesn’t have those transfer options.
Here is availability for at least 2 seats from JFK to Abu Dhabi:
From Abu Dhabi you can fly nonstop to Tel Aviv, the Maldives, and much more.
You can view the cabin seat map layout here.
The cash price for a one-way flight in first class from London to Abu Dhabi is $7,500, making this an incredible award redemption at 6.5 cents per point.
Unfortunately, Air Canada is not showing this award space.
American allows you to hold awards for 5 days and they have no redeposit/cancellation fees!
You can currently earn 70,000 miles for spending $7,000 on the Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard®.
Will you take advantage of this award space availability?

Dan, I got excited for a minute, but then noticed that the flight that is appearing available is only the 777, not the apartments on the A380 sadly. Other direction as well, it has one date available in a month, only the 777.
Seems like the first class options out of JFK are for the 789 and not the A380
how can you book this with chase points whats the way around it and transfer options
Dan, this is on the 787 Dremmliner…no shower !!
I don’t know why I keep getting $1100 in tax and fees on the AA site, not the $7 Dan is showing
