Native American Coins Linky

The mint has gotten smarter since the WSJ article.  There is currently a limit of 20 boxes, or $5,000 per household through 12/31/09 unless you email them with a reason for needing more coins (like for vending machines, etc.).  Before ordering be sure to set the cash advance limit on your credit card to $0 just in case it doesn’t go through as a purchase.

So how many did you buy today? 😉

JP

I just asked chase to do so on my new BA card and they refused. Has anyone actually had these treated as a cash advance?? which cards

steve2

It wont go thru as a CA (cash advance) but might as a CE (cash equivalent) if the Mint in fact keys it as a CE then most likely the person will end up earning 0 miles or pts or 0% in rebates, as most CCs have in their T&Cs that CEs do not earn anything like a Purchase does

theres no way to have your CC not accept a CE charge, that I have heard of. So say you purchase 20 boxes of NAs and its keyed as a CE and thats all that you have on your CC statement. Then you bill will be for $5k and in the area where they show what you earned , it will be 0

dovid

what’s the story about it saying not accepting orders ntil january 2?

Mike

Dan,

Once 2010 comes into play is the 20 box limit a per order limit/ per month? How will we rack up points on the SPG AMEX?

me

shipping is 4.95

shady

you should give a heads up that they state explicitly:

The intended purpose of the Circulating $1 Coin Direct Ship Program is to make $1 Coins readily available to the public, at no additional cost, so they can be easily introduced into circulation—particularly by using them for retail transactions, vending, and mass transit. Increased circulation of $1 Coins saves the Nation money. The immediate bank deposit of $1 Coins ordered through this Program does not result in their introduction into circulation and, therefore, does not comply with the intended purpose of the Program.

By clicking “Add to Cart” I agree that I understand, and will comply with, the intended purpose of the Program.

i ordered some presodential coins which ahve now shipped, and i ordered more than my cash advance limit. the order still went through and when i checked my credit card online, my whole cash advance limit was still there.

by the dan, i called amex, citi and chase to set my cash advance limits to $0 and they wolud not do it for me. they said that i would have to lower my credit lines.

how do you do it?

thanks, happy chanukka, enjoy your trip!

e

it seems that there is no way to reduce the cash advance limit at least on the chase british airways card

Dan/Ctownbochur

@JP:
I haven’t read any reports of this being a cash advance yet, but they say they will start doing that.

I was able to get a manager to change my Citi, Chase, Diners Club, and AMEX cards to $0 cash advance, but it wasn’t always easy.

@dovid:
It says that sales start 01/01/09.

@shady:
OK, so don’t put them back in the bank if you don’t feel it’s ethical. Pay for stuff that doesnt take credit cards.
-Pay your property tax with it.
-Pay your rent with it, Etc.
Any other ideas?

e

according toi what chase told me with the ba card at least the cash advance is 20% of your credit line and your cash advance limit will only change with you credit limit

coolness

can you please tell me if its worth it to pay my landlord in coins?
is it worth me getting on his bad side? lol if i do this will still get hot water?

lemme know!

izzy

is the 4.95 shipping cost for the each box or for the whole thing? 5000 dollars ends up being 20 boxes and if its per box thats 99 dollars . thats not a good deal unless your planning on not paying ur credit card bill in full in which case you will end up paying interest.

steve2

There is no $4.95 shipping charge . Better put when you get to teh checkout page it will disappear and be $0, or if you order teh max 20 boxes, all you will be charged is $5000

dovid

what does it mean to lower your cash advance?

Schneur

shipping is free, and it comes priority overnight with UPS!!

another question, if they put the charge through as a cash equivelant, will that still work to reach spending on a card?

like i got the BA visa, so if i buy $2000 of coins will that give me 2000 in spending?

thanks all!

@Schneur:

i had the exact same question!!!
like will this go towards my citi AA 750 dollar spending??

ananomyous

@Schneur:

chase in lakewood nj did not want to deposit the coins, they told me the know all about the coins shtick & they have a new policy not to deposit dollar coins since thay dont have place to store it in the vault & its to costly for them to ship it

steve@

@abe

Thats true they dont have to accept them as a Deposit. However if you are paying off a Chase CC or a Chase Loan of any type they do have to take them. However, Id just drive 1 town over and youd probably not hav ethe problems

Now they can tell you to take a seat and wait as they will count the coins 1 by 1. Or Chase can go ahead and cancel your CC after taking them in. Both unlikely to occur but can

steve@

i dont if this applies to anyone on DD. but USBank issuer of the FlexPerks CC, has withdrawn giving pts for any purchase of the Coins. They did so by simply unannounced setting 12/8 as the final date.

Meaning any acct that had its monthly Closure on 12/8 or before got pts for the Coin purchase/s, any acct which had its monthly closure from 12/9 onwards wont receive any pts for the Coin purchases no matter when the transaction hit their acct.

So if a person had the transaction hit on 12/8 and their statement closed that same day, they will get the Pts. If say a person had the transaction on post on 11/10 but their statement closed on 12/9 then No pts for the Coins.

Look for other banks to climb aboard and do likewise. Might be a good idea to spread your Purchase over more then 1 CC and not with the same Bank

steve@

correction to the above . Its not when the statement closed that counted but any Mint Purchase that Posted to your acct on 12/7 or before will get the pts.

So if if your statement closed on 12/10 but the coins posted on 11/11 you will get Pts. If your statement closed on 12/10 and the coins posted on 12/9 = no pts for the coins

Its worse since many of us had a promo spend $xxxx and get Xxxx bonus pts. So teh coins were worth alot more then just 1 pt

Steve
i went to 3 chase locations (3 diffrent towns) none of them wanted to deposit it, they told me go to the Coin Machine at TD Bank. i guess i will try 1 more branch or i wont have a choice to do it by TD
i need to deposit it to pay my Amex Starwood.
Thanks for you advice

steve2

@abe

I hope you arent going in with all of them (if you have say more then $1500) also its good to be depositing something else along with them.

I did 2 Chase branches this week each with $1k only along with a couple of checks with 1 and $200 cash with the other which I took out at the other Chases ATM

abe

Steve2

I went with $500 (2 boxes)

Avi S.

good afternoon, is this a new thing or has always been like that, that you can only place an order with the mint, 1 time every 9 days?
