Update, 9/30: This offer ends today!

Note that since this post was made, Qatar Avios for OneWorld awards were devalued. A short-haul award like NYC-Cleveland has gone up from 6K Qatar Avios (~4.6K AMEX) to 9.5K Qatar Avios (~7.3K AMEX).

You can still redeem Qatar Avios for JetBlue flights at the old rate, such as 8.5K Avios (~6.5K AMEX) for a JetBlue short-haul award like NYC-Fort Lauderdale, 25K Avios (~19.2K AMEX) for a JetBlue Transatlantic award like NYC-Amsterdam, London, or Paris, or 78K Avios (60K AMEX) for a JetBlue MINT business class Transatlantic award like NYC-Amsterdam, London, or Paris with excellent availability!

You can also redeem 11K Finnair Avios (~8.4K AMEX) for an AA domestic flight in coach, 30K Finnair Avios (~23K AMEX) for an AA domestic first class flight, 15K Finnair Avios (~11.5K AMEX) for an AA Hawaii flight in coach, or 38K Finnair Avios (~29.2K AMEX) for an AA domestic first class flight.

Get A 30% Bonus When You Transfer AMEX Points Into Avios!

You can get a 30% bonus for point transfers from AMEX to BA, Iberia, or Aer Lingus Avios. You can also transfer BA Avios to Finnair Avios or Qatar Avios, where you can redeem awards for fewer miles. You can combine Avios via this link via the BA site.

With this bonus 1,000 AMEX points transfers into 1,300 Avios. This promotion runs through 9/30.

This is only valid for US cardholders.

Avios aren’t what they used to be. British Airways seems to devalue them every few months, bringing them from first to worst in no time. See this post for the current BA award chart that we have compiled.

Though for now, you can still save a fortune by transferring BA Avios to Qatar. See this post for the current Qatar award chart.

You can also save with the Finnair award chart, which is the only Avios program that doesn’t charge per leg flown.

You can search for award availability using BA Avios here. Finnair or Qatar should be able to book any award space that you find using BA Avios for fewer Avios, but you may need to call them to book. Or you may have to book another flight and change to it.

  • Sample redemptions, not factoring in the 30% bonus:
    • NYC-Cleveland AA coach: 6K Qatar Avios, 11K Finnair Avios, 12K BA Avios
    • NYC-Miami JetBlue coach: 8.5K Qatar Avios
    • NYC-Miami AA coach: 9K Qatar Avios, 11K Finnair Avios, 16K BA Avios
    • NYC-LA AA coach: 13K Qatar Avios, 11K Finnair Avios, 20K BA Avios
    • Dallas-Maui AA coach: 20,750 Qatar Avios, 15K Finnair Avios, 20,750 BA Avios
    • NYC-Paris JetBlue coach: 25K Qatar Avios
    • NYC-Paris JetBlue business: 78K Qatar Avios

Kev

Is this the best current deal for someone interested in, say, flying from NYC-MIA and has access to any miles (Amex, Chase, airlines)? Seems hard to beat if you use the 30% plus Qatar…

I’m killing myself just booked about 15 round trip aa phl to lax using qatar points
I didn’t know about Finnair

Dan,

I am trying to book a flight within the US on Finair with Avios. I can’t seem to find any award availability anywhere in the us on any day. I tried multiple cities with multiple days and I always get the same response that there is no award flights.

Am I doing something wrong?

P.S. I created a Finair account and it does not help

jacob

what is Finnair change / cancelation policy?

FellowClevelander

@Dan wdym that finair is the only avios program that doesn’t charge per leg flown? Meaning I can fly round trip for 11K miles? Also do I need to call them to book AA partner flight from CLE to PHL? Ty
