Update, 3/31: The 20% bonus from Chase to Avios ends at 11:59pm ET tonight.

Originally posted on 3/2:

You can get a 20% bonus for point transfers from Chase to BA, Iberia, or Aer Lingus Avios. You can also transfer BA Avios to Finnair Avios or Qatar Avios, where you can redeem awards for fewer miles. You can combine Avios via this link via the BA site.

With this bonus 1,000 Chase points transfers into 1,200 Avios. This promotion runs through 3/31 at 11:59pm ET.

Chase last offered a 30% bonus to Avios in October 2024 and September 2023.

You can also get a 20% bonus to Avios from AMEX or Citi.

In general, you shouldn’t transfer miles unless you have short-term plans to redeem them for flights.

Avios aren’t what they used to be. British Airways seems to devalue them every few months, bringing them from first to worst in no time.

You can save with the Qatar award chart or the Finnair award chart, which is the only Avios program that doesn’t charge per leg flown, though both Qatar and Finnair recently devalued their Avios.

You can search for award availability using BA Avios here. Finnair or Qatar should be able to book any award space that you find using BA Avios for fewer Avios, but you may need to call them to book.

It can be tricky to book Qatar awards, so read this post first to learn all about Qatar Avios.

Here are some highlights:

  • A short-haul Qantas award like Melbourne-Sydney can be booked for 6K BA Avios (5K Chase Points).
  • A short-haul JetBlue award like NYC-Fort Lauderdale can be booked for 8.5K Qatar Avios (~7K Chase Points).
  • A short-haul AA award like NYC-Cleveland can be booked for 9.5K Qatar Avios (~7.9K Chase Points).
  • A domestic Alaska coach award like NYC-LA can be booked for 11K Finnair Avios (~9.1K Chase Points).
  • An Alaska coach award to Hawaii can be booked for 13.5K Finnair Avios (~11.2K Chase Points).
  • An AA coach award to Hawaii can be booked for 15K Finnair Avios (~12.5K Chase Points).
  • A domestic AA coach award like NYC-LA can be booked for 16K Qatar Avios (~13.3K Chase Points).
  • A transatlantic JetBlue coach award like NYC-Amsterdam, London, or Paris can be booked for 25K Qatar Avios (~20.8K Chase Points).

@Dan: Amusingly you refer to them as “your favorite points”. Mine as well. But for that reason I save those for United and Hyatt and only transfer my “cheaper” points into Avios (even without the bonus).

Has anyone else had issues getting on to the BA site? No matter which browser I use, no matter whether it’s the English or American site, it sems like it’s been down for weeks.

I tried accessing their website from 2 browsers now same issue not working

I have a feeling that your problem is because its blocked by your Kosher filter that you have on your computer installed. Try using a computer that doesn’t have a filter. please let me know if this worked, thanks.

Checked with Qatar’s homepage for AMS-NYC and it shows only their own flights with stop in Qatar.. no option with JetBlue.. I Checked March April and May

Why should any Jew have any business to do with Qatar! Qatar supports Hamas and other terrorist groups. They just introduced another anti-Israel resolution in the UN. Any Jew who gives any business to Qatar is supporting terrorism. Even if you are Neturei Karta and hate Israel, they are still complicit in the killing of Yidden!
If you don’t want to fly with El Al, and insist on an Arab airline, at least the UAE (Emirates & Etihad) is not anti-Israel.

@dan I just checked with Qatar and they are charging now per leg flown, please update post.

Hi Dan,

If I book a JetBlue-operated flight through Qatar Airways and I’m a Mosaic member, will I still receive all my Mosaic benefits, such as free bags and same-day flight switch?

Thank you for clarifying!

Hi,
I’m trying to book a flight from SFO to NYC on an Alaska via Chase-BA-Finnair. Before I transfer my points and book it, is there a best way to confirm award seat availability? BA? Alaska?

Thanks!
