Dan, simple question; as far as your experience goes, can we expect the Amex MR rewards to loose value and be less worthy (when selling them) after the 9/31 CO transfer deadline?
@Anshel:
09/31…gotta buy my calendars where you get ’em 😉
Yes, I do think they will lose some value, They have just added Virgin America though, so I’m hoping they will go out and add partners like AA and USAir to make up for the loss of Continental.
can i still cancel my continental and then reapply before year is up? what happens with my mileage wen i cancel card
@Dan
Have you heard any rumors about adding USAirways as a partner? Would hold off the transfer to SPG (even with the 25% bonus) if there is a chance for 1:1 transfer to USAirways in the near future.
will they send a new card ones its merged with unidet or will i stay with my current onepass card ?
@simi:
Your miles stay in your Continental account, you don’t lose anything by closing an account. You do need to open a new Continental mileage number (which can be merged together with your old one later on) to get the card again.
@PghTown:
Why don’t you just transfer to Continental?
@joe:
They will eventually send you a new card.
Hey Dan,
Awesome site.
If I have a choice between accumulating miles on continental or US airways for star alliance tickets who should I use?
@Sa m:
Definitely Continental.
@Dan- don’t have Continental (don’t get mad at me). Live in Pittsburgh and was married to USAirways in the past.
@PghTown:
US bailed on PIT, time to bail on US and open a CO account!
Definitely better than losing half the miles by converting to SPG.
@Dan
I have been holding out transfering amex miles into continental.
Do you think there will be a promo or i should just transfer.
I just got back from Israel with wife and kids (thank you AMEX) and have about 141K lft
@Avi:
I do not think there will be a promo. I personally transferred all my points to Continental back during the tax holiday last month.
Dan,
how I can open new Contiental mileage number when they allow to have only one, “You can have only one OnePass account, which is established under your full first and last name (no initials, please)”. I think that when I put my name to get a new number, they are not going to allow me to open a new one because I already have one… Please clarify this point. Thanks
i just applied for co cc. had it b4, 2 yrs ago.did not make new ff #. what do i do from here. will i get bonus, or can i still open new co ff acct and attach to app.

Is there a fee when transferring sapphire points to continental or is that only for Amex. If I need to transfer 50k to continental do I do 50k Amex or 50k sapphire ( which one is more valuable as is)?
@Marmara:
Be creative.
@Delta Guy:
Not bad for Delta miles.
@Yaks:
There’s no fee for Sapphire points like there is for AMEX points.
Are Amex points worth so much less than star wood points that it is worth exchanging them for less than 1/2 their value. Please explain how to exchange them. I guess I need an answer right away if the offer expires tonite, rav todot,
I don’t see that borrowing points option on my Amex account (I did have in previos accounts). Do I need to request that?
@Dan: RE: Continental OnePass over USAirways- One nice thing about USAirways Dividend Miles is the ability to keep the account active by shopping online. OnePass miles expire after 18 months of inactivity. I don’t fly too often- save miles for big trips every few years. Other than flying, how else to keep OnePass account active?
@Jonathan:
Only if you need AA miles or LAN pretty bad.
@kivabb:
Try calling them.
@PghTown:
Nope. Continental miles have actually never expired. If people who haven’t had activity since the 1980’s still haven’t lost their miles.
@Dan: But what will happen when OnePass transitions to United? That is my concern.
@PghTown:
If you have a United or Continental card your miles won’t expire.
Prob a silly question, but could someone explain why we should be transferring amex pts to Continental? I almost always fly CO but only use miles when i fly on short notice etc..
dan,
I can’t remember is the continental card the new milage program or can i still double up with UA & continental.
Thanks
Dan,
I have 170k Amex MRP. Do I transfer to Cont. Or Delta? As delta is currently having a promo to add 50% bonus points plus 25K MQM.
Dan,
I had a star woods card a few years ago. Do I still qualify for the 30 k. Bonus?
A year ago I got the OnePass for what I think was 30K in bonus points. Now I’m coming up on the anniversary and they are charging me $85 year fee (even though my anniversary is 9/28 they charge it 9/1 – the beginning of the month… ).
I am inclined to cancel it since I have a Sapphire which gives me Continental Miles. But I have not received yet the two lunge passes. Apparently they only send that a month AFTER the anniversary.
My question is does it pay to keep the card/$85 for these passes, and should I cancel at the end of Sep would I still receive them?
