For quite some time, Delta has added fuel surcharges on top of miles for one-way or round-trip awards originating in Europe.

For example, this screenshot from a post last year showed €297 in fees and surcharges for a one-way flight from Frankfurt to JFK.

Now, that has been reduced to €143, which are just the actual taxes, without Delta’s added ex-Europe fuel surcharge.

Spot checking several other Europe-US routes on Delta flights shows the same results, with no fuel surcharges on Delta flights.

Note that surcharges are still there for non-Delta flights.

Now, maybe we’d stop calling them SkyPesos if Delta would also lower their sky-high mileage requirements, fix the lack of compelling partner airline saver award rates, and drop the mileage surcharges for booking one-way travel. That would make them more competitive with nearly every other mileage program that has those features.

What about US to Europe?

Bernie

Will delta refund the surcharge for ticket already booked? Or need to reach out before the flight l?

Does it really matter? When you’re charging 400,000 miles for a ticket the extra hundred euros is the least of the problems.

Off topic Dan – but when award booking partners thru Alaska, they aren’t letting me book an infant, they are considering it an adult and charging full amount. This is what they’re saying. How can this be allowed?

Guests traveling with a lap infant on one of our partner airlines booked on alaskaair.com or via reservations must purchase an adult fare ticket for their lap infant (the infant will occupy a seat). All travelers, regardless of age, must purchase an adult fare/mileage award ticket and will receive a seat and their own baggage allowance when applicable.

I don’t think there is a way around it through Alaska.

But you should try buying a cash ticket (lap – 10%) for the baby with another partner, or the carrier, and then link the tickets. You might even try to book with BA Avios

What about contacting American directly, can they add the lap?

If you are booking an American flight then you could add it anytime after booking. That is what I have done many times with Alaska.

international as well? what do they charge?

Barry Graham

Still very high charges to the UK but probably due to APD.
