Effective today, most Delta cardholders will save 15% off Delta award tickets.
Delta has singlehandedly killed off traditional airline mileage earnings, elite status benefits, and award charts. Other airlines have then copied Delta’s moves.
Those moves have allowed them to massively devalue their currency without warning, earning the Skypesos moniker.
But today they have a giveback.
Delta Gold AMEX, Delta Platinum AMEX, Delta Reserve AMEX, Delta Gold Business AMEX, Delta Platinum Business AMEX, and Delta Reserve Business AMEX cardholders get 15% off Delta award tickets.
The discount will apply automatically when logged into a Skymiles account that is the primary holder of one of those cards. It’s valid in any class on all Delta flights.
Unfortunately, the discount will not apply to partner airline redemptions, though those have been recently devalued as well.
This is advertised as a new permanent benefit of being a cardholder.

If you fly Delta and redeem awards, this is probably going to be a compelling reason to be a cardholder. I’d always recommend earning points on a no annual fee card like the AMEX Blue Business Plus Card rather than using a Delta card, as that earns 2 points per dollar everywhere that can be transferred to Delta on demand. That way you aren’t subject to Delta’s devaluations, but can transfer in miles for a redemption when it makes the most sense. And now if you have a Delta card you’ll also get 15% off the award ticket on top of benefits like free checked baggage.
Will this benefit make it more likely for you to get or keep a Delta AMEX?

Remember to account for the excise tax you’ll pay when transferring Amex points to Delta
I don’t recall chase charging any excise tax when transferring points to United so I’m wondering why Amex is dOing it.
It’s a fee, not a tax.
But it’s still much better than earning half as many miles on a Delta card.
Trying to do the math here: which is more advantageous? Using Chase Sapphire UR points or transfering into Delta and using a Delta AMEX for reward flights?
Well obviously since both are based off of cash prices it would depend who’s charging more at any given point…
Still expensive
Delta will just raise the award prices by more than 15%…
Absolutely, at first I was excited, then I when to rebook my pending award flights and saw that they raised award pricing by 30%
Could just be you wanted too long and prices went up??
Just saying their economy ticket pricing is usually pretty good these days, 600 dollar tickets can be had for around 40-45k before the discount
can you transfer amex points with amex blue bussiness or you need a paid card to transfer like chase ???
You can, no need for a paid card.
Is this for also ro domestic or only international awards?
All Delta flights.
Delta posts phantom awards all the time, very unreliable to figure out availability.
FYI This is a mess. Benn trying to book for 120 minutes. Keeps saying error. Tried it 12 times. Called in and rep tried to do it and put me on hold. 35 minutes later the call was dropped. Called back and rep said that agents could not do it. Only online. I said I knew that but I have tried it 12 times and it keeps saying to call in, there is an error. I am back on hold. 40 minutes so far on this call.
Just a suggestion. I errored out four times this morning. Then I tried through the Delta app and it worked on the first try.
the deal goes for all seats not only bussines.

Shame they aren’t offering this on the no AF card or on partner awards.
I saved 30K miles rebooking my family and I from LAX-HND. Very happy about this new benefit.
If I understand Dan’s disdain of Delta SkyMiles, it’s mostly about the damage Delta has done to all mileage programs, not about the actual value of Delta SkyMiles. Delta the first to devalue the programs by initiating certain changes which were then copied by other airlines.
But at this point, Delta Skymiles are not less valuable than other airlines, at least not for domestic travel.
I can consistently get 1.3-1.4 cents per mile on Delta flights within the US.
whats my best bet on how to use delta skymiles if i have 100,000 points
