Login to AMEX via the link above and you can see if you are targeted for a 10% or 15% bonus when you transfer AMEX Membership Rewards points to Cathay Pacific Asia Miles. This targeted offer expires 11/30.
Asia Miles no longer expire, as long you you earn or redeem 1 mile every 18 months.
Cathay Pacific has better award availability on Cathay flights than they release to partners, which makes their miles valuable.
You can search for Cathay and some partner award flights here.
Fuel surcharges for British Airways flights are much cheaper than they are with other partners.
For example,
- A one-way business class flight from JFK to London on 11/19:
- Alaska charges 45K miles+$995
- AA charges 57.5K miles+$732
- Cathay charges 63K miles+$222
- BA charges 80K Avios+$375
- A one-way business class flight from London to JFK on 11/20:
- Alaska charges 45K miles+$722
- AA charges 57.5K miles+$709
- Cathay charges 63K miles+$554
- BA charges 80K Avios+$375
- A one-way business class flight from JFK to Tel Aviv on 5/19:
- Alaska charges 70K miles+$1,081
- AA charges 70K miles+$1,072
- Cathay charges 89K miles+$450
- BA charges 104,250 Avios+$400
There’s also much better availability to book BA awards with Cathay miles than with other partner miles!
And if you want to fly in Cathay Pacific First Class or want expanded business class award space, you’ll need Cathay miles.
Cathay Pacific first class features what I think is still the best seat and best bed in the sky on any airline. Service is also fantastic, as are the PJs and other amenities. Kosher meals from Asia are catered by London’s Hermolis, which makes by far the best kosher meals in the air. In JFK, you can order fresh Fresko kosher meals on demand at the Soho First Class lounge.
Transfers from AMEX or Citi to Cathay are typically instant, while transfers from Capital One to Cathay can take a day or 2. You can call or chat with Cathay Pacific to hold award space.

why are taxes a lot more when flying out of ewr as opposed to jfk?
bonus was showing up yesterday (Cathay) but today its gone…anyone else in the same boat?
Yes! This just happened to my friend and I as well. If anyone has any resolution, please pass along. I’ll call Amex if I don’t see it pop back up soon.
I called last night and the Amex rep said offers can disappear at any time and they are not going to look into adding it back. So frustrating!
