El Al operations have been suspended since March 27th, but they have told travel agents that they will begin a limited schedule in October.
- Starting on October 1st, they will resume flights to Athens.
- Starting on October 12th, they will resume their flagship routes to JFK, London, and Paris.
Cargo flights will resume on September 21st.
I would expect other routes to be gradually added back in future months.
Of course, foreign nationals are still not allowed into Israel without a special exemption. Returning Israelis need to quarantine for 2 weeks if they have been in a red country. The UK and Greece are currently green, but France and the US are red. You can lookup the status of countries around the world here.
El Al also writes that you can convert tickets for cancelled flights into vouchers worth 125% of the price paid. You can try emailing creditrequest@elal.co.il or salesus@elal.co.il to take advantage of that offer. Alternatively, you are also entitled to a refund for cancelled flights, but those have been slow in coming.
With Israel’s borders closed to foreign nationals through at least September 30th, El Al has closed sales for all flights (except Athens) through October 11th and for non-flagship routes through October 24th.
El Al has been rebooking some passengers on United. You can try emailing creditrequest@elal.co.il to ask about reaccommodation.
Generally speaking, you can see if your flight will be cancelled based on which flights the airline is still selling. Based on researching which flights El Al is currently selling, below is a roundup of apparent route cancellations. Of course this is still subject to change until a flight is formally cancelled and flights can still be further delayed as well.

If I got a refund do I still get the gift card?
No
Does this have anything to do with the new “Controlling Shareholder”?
good question anybody? Dan?
Probably yes. They are trying to get back market share
How long do you have to use the voucher?
Can you use twice (if you have leftover)?
Anyone know the status of the Matmid program?
I hope they made sure to get a Heter Iska for this. Sounds complicated.
what about if it was booked with chase ur points?
Can i get rebooked? I have a return flights only, 125% wont get me a one way…
I don’t understand the 125% voucher.
If El Al raises their prices that wipes out the extra 25%.
For example, if I paid $1000 for a ticket and I get a voucher for $1250, by the time I redeem the voucher chances are the ticket prices will have gone up to approximately $1250.
Am I missing something?
Thanks.
They can’t just raise prices, they need to be competitive in the marketplace.
True, but prices generally rise not fall over time.
That’s not true for airfare.
1 – Any idea for how long the voucher will be valid?
2 – Also, if I purchased tickets for myself & 2 children (& they were cancelled), will I be able to combine the 3 extra 25% toward another ticket for myself in the future or maybe even towards a 4th person’s ticket (or is each 25% only for the name on the original ticket)?
Thank you.
Good question – is it one voucher for the whole reservation or one voucher per ticket? Only matters to the extent that using it is less than entirely flexible, of course.
I’m hoping for flexible use, of course. Upside for the airline is that it brings the customer back for a second flight if their first is cheaper.
But if you have to use it for the same passengers and have to use it in one shot, I hope at least it’s one for the whole reservation. That way I’ll only have to make sure to use it when buying 4 tickets that are at least 125% of the sum of 3 pesach tickets + an infant surcharge.
According to this article (in Hebrew) https://www.ynet.co.il/economy/article/HJFNahwrP
The voucher is not restricted to the passenger on the original ticket. It can be used until Dec 31/21 for travel through ’22 and if not used can be exchanged back into the 100% refund. Only two forms of payment can be combined to pay for a booking and each voucher is one form of payment.
