I don’t write about every new hotel that opens, but this one is pretty exciting.
We visited Rome some 6 years ago and loved it, though it was a shlep to get from the S. Regis to the Jewish ghetto, where most of the kosher food in the city can be found.
So I was excited to see that Hyatt, which typically offers the best bang for your buck with points, is opening a Thompson Hotel in Rome in mid-2024 just outside the Jewish ghetto.
The 70-room hotel will be located at 4 Via delle Botteghe Oscure, just 0.2 miles from cholov yisroel ghetto delicacies like BaGhetto Milky, Casalino, Yotvata, Bona Pizza, Cremeria Romana Gelato shop, or the Forno Boccione bakery.
There’s no fully glatt kosher meat restaurant in the ghetto, you’ll have to go to Little Tripoli for that or Shabbos takeout food. It’s also well worth shlepping out of the ghetto for Flour pizza, bakery, and coffee.
The 1930s-era building was previously the headquarters for the Italian Communist Party and will retain its original design elements.
This will be the 2nd Thompson hotel in Europe, after the Thompson Madrid. That hotel which opened last year, is a Hyatt category 5 property, costing between 17K-23K points per night. That 175-room hotel is also centrally located with a roomy lobby, luxurious rooms, and a rooftop pool.
Hyatt will also open a Thompson hotel in Vienna in 2025.
The Rome hotel is not yet bookable, but I’ll update this post when it is.
You can transfer Chase points to Hyatt instantly at a 1:1 ratio.

Ohh well I’m going this August ih”y will miss it, was a little tricky finding a good point redemption hotel for shabos in the Jewish ghetto so just used sapphire reserve points. I just hope the Thompson will be shabos friendly with no sensors and a way to have manual access…
I went to bahgetto meat a number of years ago. They had glatt meat available on request for almost every dish.
But can you rely on them for that? They don’t have separate keilim to differentiate between people’s orders.
Chabad told us no. Either way the dairy is so incredible I didn’t miss it.
Will be Category 6
