On Tuesday 3/26, Wyndham will be adjusting their award levels.

Hotels go for 7.5K, 15K, or 30K points per night and 3% of hotels will go up while 4% will go down. Wyndham won’t say which hotels will be going up or down (I guess that means popular redemption options will go up), so you’ll want to make reservations now before that happens.

You can also use 15K Wyndham points per bedroom per night to book Vacasa home rentals. When I wrote about that option last August you were able to do that for homes that cost up to $500 per bedroom per night, but in October that cap was lowered to $350.

On Tuesday 3/26, 15K points will only be useable for homes that cost up to $250 per bedroom per night. If you want to redeem for homes that cost up to $500 per bedroom per night, you will have to redeem 30K points per bedroom per night.

You can call 800-441-1034 to book Vacasa homes with Wyndham points.

You can transfer points instantly from Capital One or Citi to Wyndham to book a vacation rental.

Book by 3/25 to lock in current rates! Will you book any Wyndham awards?

A bit frustrating that Wyndham won’t tell us which properties are changing award prices. It’s a small number, but the gap between 15K and 30K is massive. 30K redemptions are almost always poor value and rarely worth it (I just book a different Wyndham property or book with another chain). If you have your eye on a 15K Wyndham property that seems undervalued (perhaps published nightly rates averaging above $250) now might be the time to make a reservation.

The Vacasa changes mostly impact one bedroom properties as few vacation rentals will go for under $250 after adding in Vacasa’s fees. Of course, many of the desirable properties became unavailable after the cap was lowered to $350 from $500. You can go to Vacasa’s website and price out your stay and see if it matters.
