On 4/2, I wrote that IHG was going to start capping the anniversary nights issued on their Chase IHG Select card starting on 5/1 to hotels that cost 40K points or less. Previously they were valid at all IHG hotels.
In that post I wrote how it was surprising to announce a change with so little notice given that they were still advertising an uncapped anniversary night and new cardholders would effectively not even get one uncapped night.
A couple of days later I wrote that Chase and IHG partially relented. They announced that if you opened an IHG Select card between 1/1/18-4/5/18 that you would get an uncapped anniversary night.
In that post I wrote how the compromise was bizarre as people who opened the card between May-December 2017 also would not get a single uncapped anniversary night. I advised people to write to Chase if they fell within that group.
And now Chase and IHG are doing the right thing. All Chase IHG Select Card anniversary nights issued before 5/2/19 will be valid at all IHG hotels:

Kudos to Chase and IHG for doing the right thing!
The new IHG Premier card is not subject to Chase’s 5/24 rule and it comes with an annual certificate good for a free stay in IHG hotels that cost up to 40K points. There is an $89 annual fee.
If you have the new IHG Rewards Club Premier credit card you’ll also get Platinum status and every 4th award night for free! That means a 4 night stay at a 30K Intercontinental hotel which is on sale for 15K points (such as these Intercontinental properties that are currently half off with points) will cost just 45K points for 4 nights or 11,250 points per night!
If you have both the IHG Select card and the IHG Premier card you’ll get every 4th award night free AND a 10% rebate on award nights! That means a 4 night stay at a 30K Intercontinental hotel which is on sale for 15K points (such as these Intercontinental properties that are currently half off with points) will cost just 40,500 points for 4 nights or 10,125 points per night!
The new IHG Premier card also comes with free Global Entry/TSA Pre-Check and gives a 20% discount when you buy IHG points.

Maybe calling and complaining helps! I called chase and they said I could put on a complaint but it was ihg who made the change then I called ihg and the supervisor tried telling me it’s the same thing because it’s still a free night – I told them I feel like I’m being punished for applying in October and spending thousands of dollars and it was pretty unethical to give it to the new applicants but take it away from those who spent their hard earned money on the card already – I asked for corporate offices email ( which she refused to give me) – I kinda went with your mantra to voice your opinion when something is out right wrong ! I called and wrote both Chase IHG. Received usual replies. With Chase, I stated that terms were changed in the first year and that was not supposed to be done. I’m guessing there were a lot of complainers….
