Hilton has made a number of changes to their program over the past week, here’s a roundup of them.
- Free weekend night certificates, which can be earned on Hilton AMEX cards, have been valid for use on any night of the week since the start of the pandemic. This is now a permanent change going forward and these certificates are useable any night of the week! The bad news is that standard Hilton free nights at top hotels have become rarer and rarer to find.
- You can register for double elite night credits through the end of the year. That’s on top of previously reduced 2022 requirements.
- You can register for double base points plus 2K bonus points for weekday checkouts through the end of the year.
- Spending on Hilton AMEX cards has counted as base points towards earning elite status and lifetime status since the start of the pandemic. That has been extended through 12/31/23.
- Hilton elite requirements will return to their pre-pandemic levels for 2023.
- All Hilton hotels in the US will feature Peloton bikes by the end of this year.
- Hilton points will now expire after 24 months of inactivity, up from 15 months.
Overall these are some nice changes, though it’s just a shame that Hilton standard free nights have become so hard to find at top-tier Hilton hotels and that Hilton elite status isn’t worth all that much.

The days of getting free nights at the WA Jerusalem or WA Cabo are long over.
The only Waldorf Astoria that has multiple Free Nights availability is Vegas but they give away rooms in that city

What’s awful about the Honors program is how expensive award nights have become. The devaluation is awful. just a couple years ago, a Hilton property cost about as many points as a comparable IHG property. Now it’s usually 2x. Not worth bothering with. I no longer try to accumulate Honors points. It’s almost as useless as the Marriott program.
Hilton diamond and even gold status is extremely valuable everywhere where Americans don’t dominate the clientele. As someone who stays 80 plus nights around the world in hilton per year this is an absolute fact. The reality is that once every American can get gold status for nothing via cc it can’t possibly be valuable.
