This has been talked about for several days, but Europe has now officially decided to close their borders.
Non-EU nationals will not being able to enter Europe unless they are family of EU nationals, diplomats, or are needed for essential reasons.
The UK is not yet closing their borders.
The border closure applies to all 27 member EU countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden. I’d assume that this will also affect Schengen area countries Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland
Travel within the EU will still be allowed.
Each country will implement the ban as soon as they are able to do so.
This will mean that most, if not all international flights to the countries above will be cancelled in the coming days. More airlines will suspend service as well.
The only question is when will the US close their borders?

who likes borders now.. haha
Lmao
Anyone know about Russia ? Moscow ? Flying through on Aeroflot ?
Russia’s borders are closed. Not sure about transiting rules, call your airline for updates.
Today you can call an airline without waiting 90 minutes on the phone?
I’m in Tlv now, and people are going to NY on Aeroflot
That’s good, so transit must still be open.
If the boarder is closed wouldn’t they not have any flights coming into the country? Are you saying everyone on the flight from TLV must be transiting to a diff country?
It’s open to Russians.
Everyone else must be transiting.
Didn’t the US close their borders already no travel between europe and the EU and london ?
It’s not closed to other continents.
That’s to enter the US if a foreign national has been to Europe.
is there more concern of new people bringing in the virus than the ones inside that are spreading it w/o symptoms?
It’s easier to socially isolate without more people walking through the front door.
Not to be selfish, but since Serbia is not on the list, does that mean Air Serbia won’t be cancelling their flights?
Because then they won’t have to follow an otherwise generous cancellation policy, if the passenger is the one who cancels.
They might actually be filling up their planes because no one else will be flying to the US (or Israel)
To Israel (think 14 days isolation)
Yep
and I got a wedding next week in Canada.
Canada is being strict about letting anyone in, even Americans.
Is this new regulations? I thought Americans were safe for now
Americans are reporting having problems driving through the border.
from what I heard only because they missing extra “travel health insurance”
Data points of US citizens that were made to turn back yesterday due to Corona. You must have a solid, convincing reason (likely of urgent nature) to enter…
My friend entered the Champlain land border today, no issues.

Hi I have a flight leaving tlv to ams at 5:15 am do you think it will get canceled
Well look who’s racist now. To be consistent, they should let in people with COVID-19, as the hospital bill is the same cost of regular illegal immigration.
Such a smart comment about ‘hoax Chinese virus’ 🙂
How come my Aerflot TLV to NYC via Moscow flight for next week was not cancelled???? You think it will still go?
You should still be able to transit.
Against all odds i managed to cancel and get my ultimate rewards back for my united flight from NYC-LHR although the actual flight wasn’t cancelled!

Doesn’t look like Switzerland is shutting it border
It is not part of Schengen
Erm, yes it is.
Yes Dan, It is part of Schengen, still doesn’t show in the news that it’s closing it’s borders.
Do you Mind quoting where u saw that, Bc the article above doesn’t include Switzerland
Just talks about Europe as a whole.
In the Swiss news there isn’t talk about closing yet… (Not saying gut won’t happen)
I said that I’d assume that’s the case.
If that’s not the case, can’t anyone fly into those countries and then go anywhere within the EU?
Does the EU border closure mean you can’t transit via EU airports?
An American in Denmark, Russia or Sweden can still transit the EU to go to the US. But if you arrive in Denmark or Germany and try to clear Danish or German entry controls without evidence of somehow being eligible to an exemption noted in the Schengen/Schengen member state’s travel bans, then expect denial of entry as a very real possibility … one tht even hits some EU citizens. And don’t discount the possibility of being stuck in limbo due to the travel bans, changing rules and the drastically shrunken flight route networks/schedules/capacity.
Is there a reason Serbia is not on the list? Is Serbia not part of the ban?
Serbia is not part of the EU.
Thank you Dan, been an avid reader , first post. As a visitor to USA (currently in US) with an ESTA …uk passport , I am limited to 90 day visits. Will I potentially always be able to find a flight OUT of USA (Florida preferably ) within the next couple of weeks, back home to UK ? Am I taking a big chance remaining till as late as 3 weeks from now?
Big chance.
If flights are barred and borders are closed, I’m assuming they would give an exception to the 90 days, no?
Third-country nationals who are stranded in the EU and as a result overstay or who stay beyond the authorized visa-free maximum period of stay can ask a Schengen border guard to make an exception upon presentation of documentation about the reason for the overstay and ask for an exception. They can do this even at the exit passport control stations.
I’ve never had this done for myself or seen it be done in person at Schengen passport control for this situation, but I’m told by authoritative sources here in the EU that it can be done and that they have done it at times. This is what they do, for example, when someone says they overstayed due to a hospitalization. Of course, this may be a situation of YMMV based on who encounters whom at a given Schengen port of exit, but it has worked before and should work still for others.
Much like with their Schengen border control equivalents, the US is known to have done such kind of things before too for those who ended up overstaying due to extraordinary circumstances that could be documented as being extraordinary.
hi dan.
