Alaska Airlines announced today that they will be extending elite status.
That follows other North American airlines like Delta, United, and Air Canada.
- Alaska elite status will be extended so that you’ll maintain your current status through 12/31/21. All tier benefits will apply except the 50K bonus miles for hitting 75K status. Alaska will announce how 75K elites can earn bonus miles in a few weeks from now.
- Members who enrolled in a status match challenge between 12/1/19-3/31/20 will keep their trial elite status through 12/31/21! That’s incredibly generous of Alaska.
- Elite qualifying miles earned between 1/1/20-4/30/20 will rollover to 2021. That includes the 50% bonus elite qualifying miles.
- All companion certificates that were going to expire on any date in 2020 will now expire on 12/31/20 for travel through 11/26/21.
- Alaska lounge members will get a 6 month extension.
- More information will be coming in the next few weeks about how to more easily qualify for 2020 status.
Well, American, JetBlue, and Southwest, what are you waiting for?

What about miles expiration?
This was my question too. Since it is virtually impossible to fly right now, I would think that would be a no-brainer.
Just waiting on Southwest to extend Companion Pass …
“For our current Companion Pass Members, we are extending your current earned Companion Pass benefits through June 30, 2021.”
From their email sent out.
One key point not included above is that elite miles earned before April 30 of this year will roll over to next year.
Link?
Cannot find a link, but email from Alaska: “Any elite-qualifying miles earned between January 1 and April 30, 2020 will be rolled over to 2021 to give you a head start on earning status for 2022.”
Thanks!
