AMEX confirms with DansDeals that they will increase the annual CLEAR reimbursement from $189 to $199 if you use The Business Platinum Card® from American ExpressThe Platinum Card® from American ExpressAMEX Green Card, or Hilton Aspire Card as of tomorrow.

A CLEAR Plus member can add up to 3 adults at the family rate, which can also be covered by those cards. Kids under 18 can go with their parents for free without a membership or biometrics required.

CLEAR Plus allows you to skip to the front of the line. If you have PreCheck you can skip to the front of the PreCheck line and if you don’t have PreCheck you can skip to the front of the regular line.

You don’t need to take out your ID either, your fingerprint or eye act as your ID.

The dependability that skipping the line gives you is simply amazing. It means I can leave my house 55 minutes before a flight and know that I won’t miss my flight out of CLE. When I’m with my family I’ll leave plenty of time and enjoy the airport lounge, but if I’m solo, the less wasted time in the airport is always a win.

Sadly, lines have grown in many airports and the CLEAR line can sometimes stretch longer than the non-CLEAR line. But at least for me, I have found it to be a massive time saver.

Do you enjoy using CLEAR? How have the lines been in your home airport? Will you renew  CLEAR at this new rate?

3 adults at 199 on the new rate?

R

Nick

Anyway to renew my membership now?
Even thought it’s only up for renewal in 2 months?

Joe

Clear is pretty bad experience

Jaysu

Spending for Clear (that is later reimbursed) on the Amex Platinum counts towards the sign up bonus?

Mitch

Every single time I go through clear I have some issue. It never goes the way it’s supposed to. The only reason I even have it because of Amex platinum. I would NEVER pay for it.

Clear with (many) kids is a no-no. I traveled recently with 6 children and they had to put each one into the computer. The way back I just did TSA Pre without clear and saved a boatload of time.

Probably 60% of the time we go through between my wife and I someone is getting”verified” aka needs to take out their license and show the TSA agent making this entire expirience completely useles. Clear is overused and overhyped in my opinion and needs to streamline its service considerably in the very near future to actually be useful on a consistent basis

same- clear has taken more time than just going through TSA.. not sure how they are still in business..

Last two or three times I used clear it has been a disaster and absolute waste of time. TSA pre-check has four blue shirt agents scanning and CLEAR has one agent in total

No go. Signed up years ago, was great in the beginning. Avoided a huge line in Newark with family, (I was slightly mortified as they dragged us to the front of the line in front of everyone waiting…) and a long line to the international area in Miami. Lately, it’s gotten terrible and I’ve waited longer in CLEAR than Pre-Check. Almost missed a flight waiting in CLEAR while the rest of the family got through regular security quicker. Also, I had to pull out my i.d. every time anyway. IMO, it’s pretty worthless now.

Their site is already showing the new pricing even though it’s not 8/1 in the US yet.

It seems like the more often you use Clear, the better it gets as far as recognizing your eyes and/or fingerprints.. Keep in mind that in some airports (like MIA & FLL and once in a while in CLE) the TSA Pre line could be shorter than Clear.. Just count how many people in each before going on..
