United is now selling daily nonstop flights between Newark and Dubai, operated by the 777-200 with 50 Polaris business class seats, 24 Premium economy seats, 46 economy plus seats, and 156 economy minus seats. Service begins 3/27/23.
The flight will depart Newark at 10:15pm and arrive into Dubai at 7:40pm the next day. The return flight will depart Dubai at 2:15am and arrive into Newark at 9:05am the same day.
Business class saver awards will cost 75K miles each way, though I don’t see any of those available currently. The Everyday business class award rate is currently 180K-270K miles each way.
Thanks to United’s soon to be detailed partnership with Emirates, you will be able to connect in Dubai on Emirates flights to other locations. The US Big 3 airlines have long struggled to compete with the Middle East Big 3, but hey, if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em!
You can read my 2017 trip notes from a layover in Abu Dhabi and Dubai here. Of course since 2020ās Abraham Accords the scene on the ground has changed a lot! Back then I brought my own food and shared a meal with Rabbi Levi Duchman in my hotel room, but several kosher restaurants now operate in the UAE. Rabbi Duchman is fluent in Arabic and is now the Chabad Shliach and Chief Rabbi of the UAE. I noted previously that he was one of the few non-married Chabad shluchim, but I’m happy to report that he is celebrating his marriage to Lea Hadad in the UAE today, may it be a Binyan Adei Ad!

Nice! Wish I could have made it.
I like the fact that both flights are in the late evening allowing for a full days work on both departure and arrival day to and from New York .
It’s also good for connections. For example you can leave Bangkok on Thursday evening and be in Newark Friday morning without bumping up against any Shabbos/Dateline issues.
How does Polaris stack up against Emirates/Etihad J?
Polaris hard product is great. The soft product is lacking, though I was not impressed with Etihad’s soft product at all.
Of course nothing United has can compete with Emirates/Etihad first class.
Whatās a hard/soft product?
Hard product refers to the plane and seat.
Soft product refers to service, food, drinks, etc.
Thanks
Learned something new today š
