United was fast to close down their United Club and Polaris lounge network when the pandemic hit. They have also been much slower to reopen than American and Delta and I’ve seen some reopened United Clubs filled to capacity with a line out the door, due to other clubs in the airport being closed.
Currently, United only has 11 clubs opened. 10 are in their hub airports (Chicago/ORD, Denver, Houston/IAH, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, and Washington DC/IAD), plus 1 club in Honolulu.
United says that by the end of June they will reopen:
- Fort Lauderdale (FLL) United Club
- Orlando (MCO) United Club
- Las Vegas (LAS) United Club
- Washington Dulles (IAD): United plans to re-open C17. United Club at C7 and D8 are currently open.
- Houston George Bush Intercontinental (IAH): United plans to re-open C South and Terminal B. United Clubs in Terminal C and E are currently open.
- Chicago OāHare (ORD): United plans to re-open the United Club at C16, followed by United Club locations at B18 and F4. Currently, United Club B6 is open.
- San Francisco (SFO): United plans to re-open the United Club in Boarding Area E (E4). Currently, United Club Terminal 3 is open.
That will mean 11 airports will have 21 open United Clubs by the end of June.
United has no current plans to reopen their Polaris business class lounges and they won’t do so until international business class traffic recovers. I wouldn’t expect that to happen this year.
United also says that by Labor Day they will open 8 more non-hub clubs, but they wouldn’t tell me which ones they would be.
Here are the remaining 22 airports with United Clubs that will still be closed next month:
- Atlanta
- Austin
- Boston
- Cleveland
- Dallas/DFW
- Guam
- Hong Kong
- London
- Mexico City
- Minneapolis
- New Orleans
- New York LaGuardia
- Orange County/SNA
- Philadelphia
- Phoenix
- Portland
- Raleigh/Durham
- San Antonio
- San Diego
- Seattle
- Tokyo
- Washington DC/DCA
Can we figure out which 8 airports from the list above will have their clubs by Labor Day?
Well, one critical thing needed to reopen clubs is staffing, so based on an FT tip I searched for job openings at each of the United clubs that are still closed.
Sure enough, when I searched on Google, 8 of the airports above had United Club job openings!
So there you have it, my guesses for the 8 United Clubs that will reopen by Labor Day are:
- Atlanta
- Austin
- Boston
- Cleveland
- Dallas/DFW
- New York LaGuardia
- San Diego
- Washington DC/DCA
I haven’t had this much fun since trying to decipher United’s new route teaser video. š
That guess would leave 14 more airports still waiting for their United Clubs to reopen:
- Guam
- Hong Kong
- London
- Mexico City
- Minneapolis
- New Orleans
- Orange County/SNA
- Philadelphia
- Phoenix
- Portland
- Raleigh/Durham
- San Antonio
- Seattle
- Tokyo
Think I’m right or wrong about the reopening clubs? Are there clubs that United will never reopen? When do you think United will reopen their Polaris lounges?

I like your sleuthing method. Google Polaris lounge job openings. Seems to be several openings posted a few days ago for the Polaris Lounge at IAD. Wonder if they’re trying to get the Polaris lounges open sooner rather than later.
Wow! This post only got one comment.
Construction on new United Club in Phoenix has not begun yet so it will be a long time until PHX United Club opens. United changed terminals in Feb 2020 and had plans to build a new United Club in the new location but the portion dedicated to its construction is a blank slab with walls.
