United offers a suite of cards that aren’t particularly compelling for spending, but offer pretty sweet benefits just for having a card.
- The United Quest℠ Card is one of those no-brainer cards to hold.
- Through 1/29 you can get 70,000 bonus miles+500 PQPs after spending $4,000, plus 5,000 bonus miles for adding a free authorized user in 3 months.
- The card offers an annual $125 statement credit for booking $125 of travel on United as well as 2 annual rebates of 5,000 miles each for booking award travel and flying on United.
- Cardholders get 2 free checked bags when flying United anywhere in the world (4 free bags when flying with a companion), expanded and discounted award ticket availability, discounted partner award tickets, Global Entry/PreCheck/NEXUS, free carry-on bag on basic fares, priority boarding, primary CDW insurance, upgrades on awards for elite members, Doordash Dashpass, 25% off inflight WiFi, food, and drinks, and more.
- There is a $250 annual fee, but you can pay yourself back for it by redeeming 15,625 United miles.
Sadly, as of 3/24/25, the annual $125 statement credit will change to an annual $125 TravelBank credit that expires one year after it is deposited, after your yearly account anniversary.
While the statement credit works for any United charges, such as taxes on awards or fees, the TravelBank credit will only be good for tickets. And while the $125 statement credit isn’t clawed back if you need to cancel your travel plans, with the TravelBank credit you wouldn’t have that option. With the $125 statement credit you are even able to buy TravelBank funds that are valid for 5 years, but now the funds will expire in 1 year.
It’s still a great card, but it’s less lucrative than it was previously.
- The Chase United℠ Business Card offers 75,000 bonus miles after spending $5,000 in 3 months.
- The card offers an annual $100 statement credit if you make 7 United purchases of $100 or more on the card, as well as an annual rebate of 5,000 miles if you also have a United consumer card.
- Cardholders get 2 free annual Club passes, 1 free checked bag when flying United anywhere in the world (2 free bags when flying with a companion), expanded and discounted award ticket availability, discounted partner award tickets, free carry-on bag on basic fares, priority boarding, upgrades on awards for elite members, Doordash Dashpass, 25% off inflight WiFi, food, and drinks, and more.
- There is a $99 annual fee, but it’s waived for the first year and you can pay yourself back for it in subsequent by redeeming 6,600 United miles.
Unfortunately for this card as well, as of 3/24/25, the annual $100 statement credit will change to an annual $100 TravelBank credit that will expire 1 year from when it’s deposited after your yearly account anniversary.
Will you still keep your card active despite this change?

Time to get rid of United. They work really hard to make sure that they do not have any loyal customers.
I was considering downgrading to the Explorer card even before this change, so now will most likely make the change. I don’t ever need the 4 bags, and wouldn’t mind the 2 United club passes, so seems like a no brainer now.
+1
to get the free bags, must you purchase the ticket with it? or merely just by having the card you’re set?
Practically, if you add your mileage plus number to the reservation it usually works and gives you a free bags even when booking through partners without the card…
Not in my experience it doesn’t. I have booked with third parties and was not given the free bags.
Basic economy?
No, regular economy. I booked through Chase travel portal and was charged for my bags. They said you need to book and pay for it with the credit card.
is there any reason to have any of these 2 cards if I already have the club card?
Had been pretty loyal to United for over 20 years, but with all the downgrades to all the programs I don’t try for status on any of the airlines anymore. Upgrades became nonexistent with status. I had been keeping a United Explorer card for access to some of the additional award flights, but that is less useful now too. Best deal on each flight (price or points – usually Chase or Amex) is really all I consider these days. There seems to be no compelling reason to favor one airline program over another. I gather there are some who still get value, but I think it’s not worth it anymore.
Yeah this more or less eliminates any shot of this card being worthwhile
Seems like you should be able to use the credit by buying travel Bank before March 2025 and at least get the coming year grandfathered in. .
When United was flying to Israel my wife and I used United a couple of times a year and having the quest card made a big difference in getting four pieces over there. Even now traveling from where we lived to get to an International Airport helps by flying United and getting four pieces to that destination, and since we’re gold on elal, we get the 4 pcs from NY anyways. We’ll keep it for now
