United is offering 5 miles per dollar that you fund to your TravelBank through 9/23.
In other words, if you fund your United TravelBank account with $200, you will get 1,000 miles from United, on top of any miles you’ll earn from spending on your credit card.
Purchases are not refundable and are limited to $1,000 per promotion per MileagePlus account, so you can earn up to 5,000 bonus miles.
I’m not sure if you will be able to fund your account more than once during the promotion period. If you do fund your account, please let us know if it lets you fund it again when you refresh the page, or if it locks you out until 9/24. You are able to fund your account more than once for this promotion.
The amount paid won’t expire for at least 5 years and can be extended by having redemption activity every 18 months.
The amount paid will be available for use on United flights immediately. You can find your TravelBank balance in your United account and it will show up as a payment option at checkout.
TravelBank funding has worked for travel and airline fee credit on cards like:
- Chase Sapphire Reserve®: $300 automatic travel credit on any travel related charge.
- JPMorgan Ritz Carlton: $300 airline fee credit on any airline when you call or SM for reimbursement.
- The AMEX Business Platinum Card offers a $200 annual airline fee credit on the airline of your choice.
- The AMEX Platinum Card offers a $200 annual airline fee credit on the airline of your choice.
- The AMEX Gold Card offers a $100 annual airline fee credit on the airline of your choice.
- The AMEX Hilton Aspire Card offers a $250 annual airline fee credit on the airline of your choice.
Of course reimbursement can change at any time on charges like this, but so far, TravelBank funding has been reimbursed on those cards.

Would that mean losing out of the travel benefits that you would get when you charge a ticket direct on the CC ?
You can pay partially on a credit card and partially with travelbank.

Confirmed. Can do it more than once.
Nice!
When you redeem funds from travel bank for your flight does the flight earn as many miles as it would with credit card payment?
Yes.
Thanks Dan.
I was just charged the annual fee for the Amex business Platinum, can I call Amex to downgrade the card so they should refund the annual fee?
If Yes, can i quickly do my Dell $200 purchase & $200 spend for travel or they won’t let me get away with that?
You risk a clawback if you take advantage of those credits and then downgrade or cancel right away.
I tested out using the Crystal Visa Infinite from City National with a $50 purchase. The purchase posted on September 11th, and the credit posted on the 16th. Now I will purchase the remaining $300
Tried on WF Propel World, got reimbursed.
I’ll wager that the RAT issues mass clawbacks after 1/1
Side note: when changing tickets with United it does not let you use etc or travel funds for the fare difference
Would this work for the BOA Premium Rewards $100 travel credit?
Thanks!
I used that earlier this year for the AA giftcard.
Sapphire Preferred Card offer = 80k
SP to TravelBank = 4+20 bonus = 24k
Total Points for one year cost = 104k for $95
Would this work for barclaycard arrival+ ?
