Correction: The Companion ticket cannot be made in the name of the member who earned the points, and companion travel is only valid together with the member that earned the pass!

“this sounds like a crazy deal.
can southwest flights be used on someone elses name?
and I guess the companion is just for you.
Thank you.”
I like the way you think!
Southwest’s reward tickets can be used by anyone, while the companion pass has to made out in one person’s name.
While you can change the name on the companion pass, it is not the easiest of processes, and it can only be changed 3 times.
Therefore, it may very well be worthwhile to make out the companion pass in your own name, and then just hop along for free when anyone else flies Southwest and together with whoever uses the 6 free Southwest Round-Trip tickets.
Whether you make out the companion pass in your name or someone else’s you will definitely get your money’s worth out of the 40,000 Starpoints or 50,000 AMEX/Continental miles.

Dear Dan,
who else would know the answer to this but u???
I have a platinum amex card that I got especially to use when I travel so I would be able to use the first class lounges, as the advertising site claims. I am paying close to $400 for this card for especially this reason. Wow! was I in for a surprise when I found out that my platinum card isnt an accepted pass into the airport lounges! whats going on here?
is there any way to get use of the lounges, besides for traveling with a business or first class ticket? I am willing to pay to buy a membership thats accepted.
thanks
$400…yikes!
I, and many site readers, am paying $800 less than that for the AMEX plat this year!

The US issued AMEX plat is accepted in the following airport lounges, only with a boarding pass for same day travel on that specific carrier:
-AAmerican AAirlines AAdmiral Club
-Continental Airlines Presidents Club
-Delta Airlines Crown Room Club
-Northwest Airlines World Club
-American Express Centurion Lounge (No boarding pass required)
With the card you can bring in yourself and 2 guests, or your spouse and kids.
The card includes access to Regus business offices worldwide.
I am aware of the above clubs, except the last…where is that one?…none of the others are in the international departure terminal of #4 at JFK.
is there any membership card of any sort that includes ALL airport lounges?
thanks
wouldn’t the companion pass need to have specified both names – the name of the companion, and who he’s a companion to? (Meaning I don’t think the person with a companion pass can just hook himself up with anybody flying southwest) Therefore I don’t think it would make much sense making a companion ticket for your own name
yes.. i was wondering the same thing – if i make a companion pass in my name… well then if it doesn’t specify who the companion ticket is companion to – well maybe i’ll pay $20 to random people on craiglist to take me as a “companion” of theirs. This way I can fly free a whole year as much as I want. If this would work that would be awesome… but I don’t imagine it would…
as per the southwest rules: The Member’s designated Companion must be an individual and cannot be the Member. Corporations and other entities cannot be designated as Companions.
