We’ve had an UppaBaby Vista stroller for more than 6 years and it’s our favorite by a long shot. They rarely go on sale, so take advantage of this while supplies last!

Amazon offers free shipping and free returns for 90 days on baby products like strollers:

PishPosh Baby also has UppaBaby for 20% off:

It’s not much of a secret that I’m a huge UppaBaby fan.

We started off with a Bugaboo that we got free thanks to AMEX. After all, that’s what all the cool kids seemed to have.

Except it was hard to push, especially in the snow or on bad sidewalks. And it had a tiny, hard to reach basket.
Then we saw someone else with an UppaBaby Vista. It pushed like a dream and had a basket large enough for an entire grocery trip. We were sold.

We brought our 3 kids to Fort Lauderdale earlier this month. We had Maya in the top-rated Chicco Keyfit infant carseat attached to an UppaBaby Vista. We gate checked the stroller and brought the carseat on the plane. It made getting through the airport and getting around our destination a breeze.

Plus, as the frame detaches from the seat or carseat, it falls under the 20 pound weight limit that airlines like American now rigidly enforce. People with double strollers learn that lesson the hard way.

Before Maya was born in December, we would check the stroller in the UppaBaby travel bag, which means that UppaBaby will repair any damage caused by the airlines!

We’ve grown out of needing the RumbleSeat and Ride-Along board, but those were very useful in the past as well.

Rafi and Talia currently use convertible carseats, but their main ones are too big and heavy, so they have travel convertible carseats as well. After seeing how checked luggage gets damaged we decided to have them gate check their carseats. We use a Costco Scenra lightweight convertible carseat for Talia, an Evenflo Maestro for Rafi. That means having to lug it through the airport, but having 2 GoGo Babyz Travelmates for them the carseats makes that really simple with the added benefit that if the kids get tired or if there’s a tight connection we can strap the kids into their seats and push them to the next gate. Those carseats and travelmates were lifesavers when we were running around JFK like headless chickens on our London fiasco. I can’t even imagine how it would have worked if the kids had to walk the 10 miles we covered in JFK and LGA during those 24 hours. Plus they were even able to sleep in them while we camped out in JFK overnight…

Of course we could also rent carseats, though that can be expensive and it also means trusting the car rental agency to throw them away if they have been in accident. I wouldn’t trust a car rental agency with a scratch on the car, let alone with my kids lives!

Traveling with kids isn’t easy, but that’s what works for us.

What’s your airport strategy?

@dan looking to sell your ride along board if you arent using it anymore?!? Been looking for a deal on one for a while!

Yanki

Doona! While not the best at your destination, the pros outweigh the cons.

Dan, uppa is great. Until it’s folded and you have to lift it, it’s a pain

RIP Mr. J

Don’t pay tax if you change the from Amazon seller. I did that and saved myself over $75.

Wondering

How do you manage to push 2 car seats and the Uppababy?

Our strategy is to fly Southwest whenever possible. We got the companion pass with the credit card offer for CA residents this past Nov and they also have a policy that if there are open seats on the flight, they will let you put your infant in arms in their carseat in a vacant seat. Just go up to the gate agent and ask before boarding. Going on at family boarding ensures that we will always get an entire row (though it will probably be towards the back of the plane). Flew during Thanksgiving and winter break and only had to hold our child on laps during 1 out of 7 flights! Also this made it so helpful to have extra space under the seat, because it’s hard to pack light when flying with kids.

Absolutely love our uppababy, it holds all bags carry ons car seats etc in basket. Made it thru customs with an international move and 2 kids using it and our homeade much sturdier than gogo 🙂

FYI the travel bag only covers damage while stroller is under warranty, and when we check our stroller at check in, it comes broken every time. I’ve made quite a lot of money on my stroller 🙂

Chani

Made money from the airline or from uppababy?

Ronny

I once gate checked my Vista and it cane back to me with the latch cracked off and one wheel messed up.

Anat

I have used the GoGo when my kids were younger. Now they are using booster seats and we take our mini micro scooters to the airport. Kids love riding, seats are tied to my carry on and no one gets tired. When we board, the scooters disassemble and fit just under the seat..

Hey dan

What do you mean that aa strictly enforces the 20 pound rule? What happens if you show up at gate with a double stroller?

mendel

how do you attach the car seat to the stroller?

Ronny

Do delta and JetBlue also have/enforce the 20 lb stroller rule?

DaBomb

Wife is still sacred to travel with our uppa because of the way we’ve seen them handle them at the gate.

We have 3 kah as well, our strategy is the city mini lite, we have the travel car seat strapped inside the stroller with our middle child sitting inside. We have the chico keyfit w/bravo that can either be a car seat carrier or stroller, so we end up traveling with 3 kids (ages 4,3,6m), two strollers (one of which is a car seat carrier/stroller), 3 car seats (check one), and a baby carrier so all 3 kids have a place to go.

Waiting for the 4 y/o to do more walking on his own, but our trip to Israel in dec was a breeze and easily doable without needing a cart nor assistance besides the wife and I.

Got the Chico deal through the one posted last year w/$100 GC which allowed us to get the bravo really cheap.

Thanks Dan!

We have the 2015 uppa baby VISTA and the travel bag. The frame at the bottom, on the left side completely detached, and you see a wire. Contacted UPPA baby, and they said since at time of purchase, they were offering only 2 YR warranty, no longer in warranty at this point. (Their website DOES NOT say that.) However I thought if have the travel bag and broke due to travel, we are covered? Does anyone have any advice on this issue?

Hi Dan,

Im going to be travelling for pesach to Australia with a 2.5 year old (plus a 4 year old, 7 year old, 11 year old)

Could I take the Evenflo carseat onto a Qantas flight? Would you recommend me looking into a narrower one? im worried it wont fit as i walk down the aisles.

Thanks!!

Malky

Oh sorry just reread your post and saw you gate checked the carseats. I really want to take my carseat on the plane as I believe my child will sleep better that way. Any reason why you didnt take yours on the flight?
