The Jewish holiday of Pesach begins tomorrow night and runs through April 20th.

Pesach is traditionally associated with celebrating our freedom along with family and guests, and I’m thrilled to be back to hosting some 2 dozen people for the Seder tomorrow night.

Last year, I wrote about visiting Hostage Square in Tel Aviv, with its endless empty seats at a Shabbos table for the hostages. I broke down crying upon seeing the high chairs for the Bibas kids, who we now know were murdered in Gaza.

It has been a rough 18 months for the Jewish people. But while Jews grieved over the attack and the world’s response, we also united. We have seen the incredible impact our prayers and mitzvos have had, with open miracles happening every day in Israel.

As said by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, who would have turned 123 earlier this week, the point of the Seder is to bring another guest to your Seder and not just have an extra empty chair. So find someone you can invite to your Seder and share the light!

Or in his sage words,

As you likely know, we launched a Tefillin campaign on October 9th, 2023. Our original goal was to give out 30 pairs, but thanks to incredible support from donations and from men around the world committing to wearing tefillin every day for life, we expanded that goal. When the number of people murdered by Hamas rose to 1,200, we decided to get one pair of tefillin for every soul we lost on Simchas Torah.

We are thrilled to have distributed more than 2,600 pairs of Tefillin and over 1,800 Mezuzas to civilian Jews and IDF soldiers who have committed to praying in them daily. Spending time distributing pairs to soldiers at the IDF bases across the Gaza Envelope was incredibly meaningful, and for large donors, we offer that opportunity as well. Whether you’re enjoying Pesach at home, with family, or at a Pesach program, may it be meaningful and joyous. I know I’m looking forward to eating Shmura Matzah, drinking cups of fine wine, and spending lots of quality offline time with friends and family.

And at the same time, let us keep Eretz Yisroel and its inhabitants in our prayers, and may all of the hostages be freed, during this Festival of our Freedom, and may it be the ultimate and final Festival of our Freedom, when we will have true peace on Earth.

With prayers for a kosher, happy, healthy, and safe Pesach, and happy holidays to all.
