JetBlue kicked off the latest round of baggage fee hikes by raising the cost of the 1st checked bag to $30 and the 2nd checked bag to $40.
Air Canada went up to the $30 on the 1st checked bag and $50 for the 2nd checked bag.
And now United will match JetBlue’s new higher fees for tickets within the US, Canada, and Caribbean.
The new fees apply for tickets bought today, if you already have tickets then you won’t pay the higher fees.
JetBlue still retains the advantage for customers as they don’t have basic economy fares and they offer free speedy WiFi, live TV, and free snacks, but we’ll see how long those perks last…

I predict that the next step will be airlines will follow Spirit and limit bagged to 40 lbs.
That 40 lbs limit is the worst! They’ve had that policy for years. Thankfully others haven’t followed with that one.
I’m not the travel expert but give it time. I don’t see any reason why major carriers wouldn’t attemp the 40 lb rule.
