Continental has offered a free bag to its credit card holders for some time now (2 free bags for Presidential Plus credit card holders)
Effective 06/01 Delta is also going to start offering 1 free bag to Delta AMEX card holders.
Everyone on your itinerary will also get a free bag, just like if you are flying with an Elite passenger, everyone on the same itinerary gets the same baggage allowance as the exempt member.

Dan, thanks for the BMI deal, I got my cards, was wondering besides skipping the lines in the airport, is there anything else I can use them for without them looking up my status? can I use the lounge? or do they look it up?!
Also, I had United “status” match me to Premier for 90 days, not to pleased with that. Just though maybe it can help others traveling over the next 90.
Think its worth trying to get Continental to do a status match? or is it too late after the merger.
PS, Was just in Montreal… Thanks for your tips.
Dan, I have International tickets for June, which I bought already. If I get this Delta Amex can I still get free bags If I didnt use the card to purchase the tickets?
Does this apply to all cards? I have the FREE Delta Amex card…

@Nate:
The BMI card with Star Silver should get you 2 free bags on Continental, United, and USAir, and not much more than that.
Continental won’t match Star Alliance status. You can try getting Delta to match and getting Continental to match that.
@Avi:
You already get the first bag free on international trips.
@Mendel:
There is no free Delta AMEX card, although the gold card is free for the first year.
But yes, it does work on all Delta cards.
“Starting June 1st, Cardmembers with a Gold, Platinum, or Reserve Delta SkyMiles Credit Card from American Express—and up to eight travel companions within their reservation—will automatically receive a first checked bag fee waiver upon check-in for all Delta and Delta Connection® flights.”
It makes no mention of needing to book the itinerary with that card; is your Delta Skymiles Account linked to your Delta card? How do they know to “automatically” waive the baggage fee? And again, must you use that actual card to book?
Thanks! 🙂
@AhPoshiterYid:
With Continental you don’t need to book with the card.
If the card is saved in your mileage account then the system will automatically waive the baggage fees.
If it isn’t saved then you can show it to any agent at the airport and get the fees waived (which is why even secondary free cards work for free bags on Continental).
It seems like it will work the same for Delta, but we’ll know for sure come June.

Dan, My family and I came to Israel for the year, we flew Czech Air and were allowed 2 bags free each…now Delta took over and they say that there charging us for the second bag $200 each. So by simply signing up for this CC am I gonna get that 2nd bag free even though I didnt buy the tickets with it?
if u r silver on delta and have a amex will u then get 3 free bags?
@Avi:
@Henry:
No only the first bag is free.
If you already have the first bag free then that’s it, you don’t get a 2nd or 3rd bag free.
