El Al didn’t fly on Shabbos from 1982 to 2023, but that changed on the Shabbos after 10/7/23, when the airline received Rabbinic approval to operate on Shabbos in order to bring reservists to Israel to fight back against Hamas.

After last night’s pogroms in Amsterdam, where organized mobs attacked Jews across the city, El Al is operating several flights for Israelis to return home.

The attacks came as the city was marking the 86th anniversary of the Kristallnacht attacks against Jews.

The Dutch King has apologized for failing the country’s Jews during World War II and for failing them again last night.

Dutch politician Geert Wilders has been posting prolifically on X, demanding a response:

Israel detected threats and passed those along to the Dutch police, but that doesn’t seem to have helped:

El Al is planning 6 evacuation flights and seats in all classes (Economy, Premium, and Business) are being provided free of charge, on a first-come, first-serve basis for all passengers who hold a ticket with El Al or another airline.

  • Flight LY336 from Amsterdam will depart today (Friday) at 2:50 p.m. (local time) and is expected to land back in Tel Aviv at 8:55 p.m.
  • Flight LY330 from Amsterdam to Tel Aviv will depart today (Friday) at 6:40 p.m. (local time) and is expected to land in Tel Aviv tomorrow (Saturday) at 12:05 a.m. The flight will be operated by a Dreamliner aircraft with approximately 270 seats.
  • Flight LY238 from Amsterdam to Tel Aviv will depart today (Friday) at 8:35 p.m (local time) and is expected to land in Tel Aviv tomorrow (Saturday) at 1:55 a.m. (local time). The flight will be operated by a Dreamliner aircraft with approximately 270 seats.
  • Flight LY332 from Amsterdam to Tel Aviv will depart today (Friday) at 10:20 p.m. (local time) and is expected to land in Tel Aviv tomorrow (Saturday) at 3:40 a.m. The flight will be operated by a Dreamliner aircraft with approximately 270 seats.
  • In addition to the rescue flights, two regularly scheduled flights from Amsterdam will also return to Israel today, carrying approximately 350 Israelis.
  • Additional flights will be added as needed.
  • Passengers can register for the flights by contacting the dedicated customer service number for customers in Amsterdam: 03-9404040. Please note that the call center is receiving many calls, so we ask for your patience.

A Magen David Adom medical team is traveling to Amsterdam to assist in rescue efforts and provide medical care to passengers on their return to Israel. A delegation of doctors from the Magen David Adom International Unit in Europe is already on its way to hospitals in Amsterdam to support and assist.

El Al CEO Dina Ben Tal Ganancia stated, “In light of the severe and exceptional events in Amsterdam, all of EL AL’s employees have mobilized to operate free rescue flights during Shabbat. EL AL is proud to cooperate and, together with Magen David Adom, serve as a steadfast pillar in rescuing and providing medical services to Israelis in Amsterdam. It is both our privilege and our duty.”

Kudos to El Al and hopefully the Netherlands will bring justice to the perpetrators.

scared traveler

is it safe to travel to amsterdam now?

Dave

I certainly wouldn’t, nor would I want to spend my money there. After a well-written post of Dan’s shortly after Oct 7, I commented that even if it means spending the rest of my life never traveling again (excluding Israel), then that’s fine. To name one city- I’m not sure what the appeal of Paris is for so many folks

myi

Beautiful part on elal. But said that it’s for such a reason.

And spelling mistakes to be fixed.. below.

Kudos to El Al and hopefully the Netherlands will being justice to the perpetrators.

Fred

Really? Seems like a typical football squabble to me, not to mention the bigoted stuff the Israel fans were saying/doing. Not everything is anti-semitism.

Morris

Even the Rapes?

Eli

Any reports on that or just a baseless addition to the story?

Morris

Hi Eli,
I can’t corroborate the witness testimony, but hopefully those screenshot of the victim texts can be validated once the dust settled

yelped

You missed the pre-mediated attacks part. MSM deliberately twisted the story around, as usual.

Eli

Jew hunting is just typical football stuff? C’mon. The Israelis did don’t do themselves any favors with how they acted, but this was an out and out progrom.

Allen

Nonsense propaganda. There were groups of thugs waiting at strategic locations to ambush Jews. Including outside a hotel where many were staying. This was clearly pre-planned violence.

Yossi

So the fans of the Dutch Jewish football club all just happened to be Arabic speakers?

GUWonder

There are Jewish Moroccans and their descendants who do live in the Netherlands and can speak Arabic of the sort related to that from the Maghreb.

Soccer hooliganism or street gang behavior and racist/religious bigotry is unfortunately all too commonly mixed together and present in Europe even when the geopolitical situation in the world has been more stable and peaceful than it is nowadays.

Yossi

So you’re positing that Jewish Moroccan fans of the Jewish football club in the Netherlands were beating up Tel Aviv fans while yelling Free Gaza in Arabic.

Cool story bro.

Maffe

A preplanned progrom you call soccer hooliganism? Shame on you! You should be banned from commenting on dansdeal!

Same old Fred again! Get a life Fred!! I don’t know why you are on a Jewish website, we’ve seen your other posts here, you love Kamala we’ll she’s in the trash bin of history now where you are welcome to go visit her in the dumpster, but if your comfortable with beating up Jews you are a radical violent person, and you probably think we are the fascist here,

I also want to extend an invitation for you to go visit your friends in Gaza where hopefully you will get a clearer picture about antisemitism and politics!

Dave

+ Fred, see what it’s like in Gaza in regards to women’s right, LGBTQ rights, and non-Muslim rights.

Gf

Stop trolling.

Morris

Eli,
I’m watching the videos taken inside cars as they ran Jews over (well, actually caused then to bounce on the hoods. This wasn’t some football squabble. I’d be glad to email one to you. I’m MNS085@GMAIL.COM

So sad and shocking- we were just there last month.

We spent 24 hours due to missed connection – KLM just re-launched a direct flight PDX-AMS its a day flight of 9-10 hours (so much easier to get to the EU continent from Portland an skipping LHR)

I was working on a trip for next fall and planning a few days in Netherlands – I think we may just transit AMS instead – not very interested in spending money in NL anymore. You would think they would be more vigilant with past history.

Maccabi fans in Europe have a rather notorious history of saying racist/bigoted stuff even when playing games in Europe in areas with a substantial local Arab population. And in the Netherlands there are plenty of young Moroccan-origin guys who are not afraid of a fight and take soccer very seriously.

Geert Wilders migrated from his notorious anti-semitism to Islamophobia when he realized it was a more popular vote getter and help with his party finances and personal bank account.

yelped

@GUWonder.

You are aware that Geert Wilders lived in Israel for a number of years.

Please source your claims or you’ll sound like the leftists yelling that Elon Musk is an anti-semite.

GUWonder

Sinwar lived in Israel too, spoke Hebrew and was an anti-semite.

Wilders has been a milder antisemite but migrated to Islamophobia and ditched his antisemitism as part of that journey. As part of his rehabilitation Wilders tried to hide behind a reconstructed trail about whom he considered to be his mentor. But the people who were around him in his days as a young adult and later know what kind of mentality he had.

Maffe

You mean sinwar when he was in jail in israel? That’s a twisted way of saying he lived in israel.

metziaman

Wish Dutch courts will deal with the rioters but latest news is out of 60 arrests they’ve already released almost 50 suspects….

GUWonder

Police detention/arrest of criminal suspect and release of such suspect pending prosecution is not unusual for those deemed to have enduring ties to the local community and considered unlikely to abscond abroad when it comes to charges not likely to amount to a long stint behind bars.

Racist soccer hooliganism across much of Europe typically results in just this kind of handling by the law enforcement, prosecutorial and judicial authorities. It’s the way the rule of law is and should be if there is to be equal justice under the law for all.

metziaman

Is this typical of what you call racist soccer hooliganism?

GUWonder

The handling of racist soccer hooligans engaged in violence and fighting words across Europe is what it is when it comes to police, prosecutors and courts in Europe.

Racist soccer hooligans going out to support their favorite teams and to get into fights with supporters of opposing teams is unfortunately way too deeply embedded in European soccer fan culture. This is why some European countries even sometimes have sort of suspended Schengen when they think soccer hooliganism from the domestic side and the visiting side are going to be a problem.

Chaim

I have relatives part of the Jewish community in Amsterdam, seems like overkill to rush them back to Israel a country at war, they could have just left the city center to avoid the danger for now.

which European city is safest for short stop-over in airport on way to TLV, for few girls? Amsterdam, Madrid, Paris or Italy?

GUWonder

Transiting airside at AMS is my preference when coming from the US.

Sam

Sorry to be the party pooper, but I’d love to understand what pikuach nefesh there was justified flying on Shabbos. I find it hard to imagine that the venerated Israeli security system couldn’t just set up a perimeter around a hotel until after Shabbos to protect people.
