Uber is a pretty awesome app. I’ve done day trips to cities like Chicago and NYC without having to rent a car thanks to UberX rides that are cheaper than a taxi and far more convenient. And while people wait for an hour in the taxi line I breeze right into a waiting car. I even earn Starpoints for using Uber on top of 3 points per dollar for charging Uber rides to my Everyday card.
If you’re new to Uber you can get a free $20 Uber ride via this referral link.
UberPool is Uber’s ride-sharing service where you can save money by agreeing to be matched with another rider if you’re both going along simalar routes. Even if you don’t get matched you still save money.
This weekend (06/20 and 06/21) UberPool is offering 2 free rides to, from, or within the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Crown Heights or Bed-Stuy. The maximum value of each free ride is $20, so if you go over $20, you’ll get $20 off each ride. You can get a guaranteed fare quote for UberPool in the Uber app. Just enter the following promo code online or in-app: BKLOVEJUNE and select UberPool. More info on the promotion here.
One of my favorite unconventional uses for Uber is for food delivery. I’ve been able to order restaurant food and I just ask the driver if they’re able to pickup an order for me. 9 out of ten times they have no problem with that, otherwise I just cancel for free. In restaurants without parking I just call the restaurant and ask them to bring the food outside to the driver. I’ve had food delivered with UberX on a connection in Miami airport for just $15 from 41st St in Miami Beach and in Chicago I’ve had food delivered with UberX from Shallots for $15 and Milt’s for $20. In LA food delivery from Pico to LAX is also just $15 with UberX. I haven’t tried it on Newark connections as New Kosher Special delivers their heavenly General Tso to the airport free of charge 🙂
I’ve never tried food delivery with UberPool, but if you try to have some Basil or Boeuf & Bun delivered to you from Crown Heights this weekend please post a comment on how it goes 😀

Do u just select uber pool or u actually have to end up finding someone else to ride with?
@Dude:
You just need to select UberPool.
You get this promotion and UberPool pricing regardless of if they find a match for you or not.
Is there anyway to get them to send a minivan?
Thanks
Can u order uberpool if your a few people getting a ride?
Where do they define the borders of CH or BedStuy?
@Dan What do you do about kosher meat delivery?
@menachem:
Not with UberPool, but there are larger Uber options.
@Anonymous:
I think you can have 2 people with Pool.
@MeirS:
Good question, maybe try tweeting/emailing them?
They have good customer service, so even if you’re just outside the borders I’m sure they’ll still honor it if you email them.
@shmo:
You ask the restaurant to wrap it in tape.
i guess they know people are flooding to CH this weekend for gimmel tammuz!
Curious how you get Milts for $20 🙂
All the times I go, it’s $30-$40
Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I have a car anyway but to save $5 on gas and not worry about parking why not. I’ll be using this to and from work on Sunday. (I Live in ch and work in Willi)
Don’t know where to post it but those executive shirts for $24 is 19.99 now with code gift 7 shirts 4 115 16.42 a shirt
Took uber pool to work today and actually got matched with a stranger. I took lyft line a bunch of times but never got matched with anybody.
I used it from Lefferts and NY ave and did not get the credit (I guess it Lefferts gardens and not CH)
Thanks @Dan! Landed at JFK this morning (visiting from FL), had to get to Flatbush. Uber graciously drove me for free (via CH – I didn’t even get out of the car :).
@Sruly:
Email them?
@Eli C:
Awesome!
Used it today to go from CH to the city, was about $2 round trip after discounts. Way there we weren’t matched with anyone, way back we were. All great and friendly rides.
I don’t think ordering food to Newark airport via Uber from New Kosher Special, would work being that New Kosher Special in Elizabeth, NJ does not take Credit Card, they are a cash only business. Though you have a Fleishig restaurant called Avenue Grill and Sushi that would most probably be happy to drop off into a waiting Uber car and then there is a pizza store called Jerusalem Pizza I’m not so sure they would be as accommodating. All Kosher Food in Elizabeth is under the Hashgacha of Rabbi Teitz the Rov of the Elizabeth community.
