Middle Class Folks have to get in long lines behind my constituents, Illegal Aliens, as they sign up for these cards so that they can get… what??

What is IDNYC and why do i need it if I already have a NYC license?

So you have to choose just one place for the free membership?

This is designed as an ID for people who don’t have (or can’t get) other ID’s, primarily illegal aliens. The cultural bonus is there to remove the stigma of having one of these cards. Since it’s a project of NYC, it’s only available to NYC residents.

Anyone have any idea if I get this card will my kids get access to these places as well? I mean, which 14+ yr old is really going to the Childrens musuems w/o any kids?? Any info would be appreciated thanks

How many adults/children can get in with membership is dependent on the individual museum; look it up.

I can guarantee you that they won’t be at the MET any more than until now. First of all anyone legal or illegal could have visited it prior to having this card and pay $1 instead of the suggested donation if you are short on money. Same is true for the Museum of Natural History. The Bronx Zoo is free on Wednesdays. The illegal immigrants are not standing in line to get this ID in order to visit these places, but they do attend public schools, get free lunch and healthcare paid by your tax dollars. Their museum visits should be the least of your worries.

how do you sign up?

Is this id valid everywhere I need an id? Like does it help me apply for a passport, or get into places (outside of nyc) that ask for id at the door?

Main thing I’m interested is when will they get that moving signup booth rolling. I’m not gonna stand in that line.

A lot of illegal aliens do file and pay taxes using ITINs.
Also, lots of those that use false papers have their taxes deducted from their paychecks. However, they frequently do not file a tax return and do not get a refund if they are entitled to one.

this card also offers discounts at select groceries, restaurants, movie theaters. it’s also a library card. it’s also (obviously) a photo ID. you can use it to travel within the US, apply for passports, test for a permit. all you really need is proof of address as it’s only for Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn (i don’t think it’s for the Bronx or Staten Island).

There are no appointments available at the brooklyn public library until June 2015. I tried walking in and they said there were no more walk ins. This was on 01/18.
