Junk

Not worth because its a non sequre server

Barook

Is this legit? It sounds sketchy

Chaim with a capital C

Thanks, Dan!
How can I upload folders? It seems to only allow files.

Chani S.

Any guarantees of safety?

Commitment to privacy?
(i.e. confidential documents, photos, etc…)

@Junk:

#1 What do you mean its a non sequre server and how would that affect the backup process?

Existing customers! If you already have a basic account (that is smaller than 50GB), just contact their tech support (Help -> Support -> Submit a Request). In your request, copy and paste the dell promotion link or a snapshot of the landing page and ask if you can be upgraded as well. Worked like a charm for me (though it took them over an hour to respond)

Box.com seems to be well established and legit (see http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2410914,00.asp ) and competitively secure (see http://www.petri.co.il/dropbox-vs-skydrive-vs-box.htm ). Although experts recommend “For those of you that use free cloud services, encrypt your data BEFORE you put it in the cloud.”

JSP

Look into using in conjunction with BoxCryptor
https://www.boxcryptor.com/ As per their website:
BoxCryptor secures your data in the cloud – no matter if you use Dropbox, SkyDrive, Google Drive or any other cloud storage provider.

JSP

Oh yeah, forgot to mention BoxCryptor is free for personal use.

box.com is very legit. It’s as secure as dropbox or any of the other cloud storage sites out there (which means security is is about medium strength). You can only upload files (not folders for the free account. I’ve been using box.com for about 5 years now, and have never had a problem.

BLITZ

The link is not working for some reason.
Antone else have this problem?

Wooot
Go shmuli!! 🙂

@BLITZ:

I just used it and it works. Their email to me did wind up in my spam folder, so may have to check for this.

I signed up over a year ago when they had a free 50 GB account. I was syncing 25 GB and the sync messed up so I lost over 10gb of data. I contacted their support who doubled my account to 100gb but didn’t recover any of my data. Part of their problem is when u have a tree of folders the outermost folder will show completely synced while there are inner folders unsynced. I have since switched to dropbox(when I got an s3) who has a better sync algorithm and never had a problem.

Aussie

I am not that computer savvy pls explain how I could send my files encrypted i did download the boxcryptor.com and also have a box account. Any help will be greatly appreciated

Nice deal. Yeah, box is totally legit. Probably worth over 4Billion, will go public most likely end of 2013 or 2014 for 6-8B

spideroak is where its at. they encrypt before they upload and can never access your data.

but you don’t get it for free but there are a lot of codes out there for discounts and 50% education discounts.

Clueless in the USA

All those asking if box.com is legit, it is like asking if reddit or tumblr is legit. You guys just never dealt with them, you only know the low end versions like dropbox and google drive.

Box is geared towards business and enterprise users and trying to get into the regular user market as well.

While on topic, Google drive (the application) sucks! upload speeds remind me of dial up, they really need to get their act together. I uploaded a few 2gb files to dropbox and gdrive at the same time, dropbox was finished in 2.5 hours, google drive took over 2 days! and failed a few times in middle. gdrive is good for tiny little files.

Moish

what’s the catch?

Moish

also, has anyone used dropbox and box? if yes, can you please explain teh differences?

Me Yaleh

Time to think in the box and get your head into the cloud!

curious

Can I sync with the free account?

jh

Major let down – upload file size can not be larger than 250MB per file!

Anonymous

@jh: that is only if you are uploading via their website. If you use Box’s desktop or mobile app, you are limited to the size of your Box account. In this case 50GB.

The link returns an error massage: “Sorry, we were unable to validate your offer.” Is the deal dead?

aw
